Car description

1979 Pontiac Grand Prix LJ Clean, all original, unmolested, V8, console, bucket seats, tilt, cruise, cold A/C, drive anywhere

Hard to find them this clean (and unmolested) anymore. This is a 3(?) owner, 1979 Pontiac Grand Prix LJ with two-tone green factory paint, landau top, and original cloth (velour) interior. It has it's original Pontiac 301 V8 with 2-bbl Rochester Dualjet and automatic transmission with factory floor/console shifter. Cold A/C and hot heat, cruise control, tilt wheel, and factory AM/FM radio. Everything works with the possible exception of the rear window defroster (which I have not tried).

This was my wife's semi-daily driver and as such has been maintained to be safe and reliable. The following has been repaired / replaced within the last 2 years (much of the work done as preventative maintenance):

  • New front springs, shocks, brake pads, tie rods, and upper ball joints
  • Front end alignment
  • New rear brakes (wheel cylinders, shoes, etc.)
  • New (rebuilt) Rochester Dualjet carb from National Carburetor (original carburetor also included if you want it)
  • New fuel pump and soft lines
  • New belts & hoses
  • New radiator
  • New heater core
  • New vacuum lines
  • New 15" BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires
  • Professionally refinished 15" Pontiac OEM snowflake wheels
  • New spark plugs and plug wires

The car was apparently undercoated / rust-proofed (Ziebart?) when new. As such the body is in great shape and also has no dents / dings to speak of. There are (2) rust spots that I could find; one the size of a nickel on the lower right of the trunk lid and one slightly larger behind the rear passenger wheel (see pictures of both). These are "bubbles" and have not come through the paint completely but will need to be addressed at some point. I can find no other body rust anywhere. The rear bumper fillers were replace and painted by the previous owner and the front bumper fillers appear to be original and in good shape. The landau vinyl top is good shape with no rips, tears, or dry rot. It does have some stains but cleans up nicely.

This is probably one of the cleanest, most original Grand Prix's of this era that you will find. That said, it is almost a 40 year-old car. It has a some imperfections as expected and may need other maintenance that I'm not aware of.

This car is reliable, comfortable and can be driven anywhere. The A/C is cold and the heat is hot. We've made a couple of 200+ mile trips in it and it performed flawlessly. One of the trips was to the regional POCI show where it won an award. It rides and drives great and is a bold fashion statement. People comment on it every time we go somewhere in it.

See my 100% positive feedback and bid with confidence. If you have "0" or less than 95% positive feedback please do not bid. If you have no money, please do not bid. If you need your wife's permission to buy a car please get her approval before bidding. The car is located in North Alabama and available for inspection prior to bidding.

Thanks for all the interest in the Grand Prix. Based on some questions received, here is some more info for all: - The last picture is an extra set of rally(?) gauges to be included with the car. The car has the factory fuel gauge + idiot lights which all work. The extra gauge cluster pictured adds a temp, voltage, and oil pressure gauge if the new owner cares to install same. - I do have the original owner's manual for the car along with some other paperwork that came with the car when bought new. This is will be included with the sale. - Yes, all the accessories on the car (heater, AC, cruise control, radio, etc.) works as they should. I drove the car this morning and cruised down the interstate at 70 mph with the heater on, the cruise control engaged, and the factory AM/FM radio playing some jazz tunes. That said, this car is almost 40 years old and comes with NO WARRANTY either expressed or implied. - The car is registered in Alabama and my State does not issue titles for cars this old. I will include the previous KY title, the current Alabama registration, and a Bill-of-Sale with the car. It is the buyer's responsibility to determine if your State requires any other documentation to transfer ownership. I'll be glad to provide it if I have it (or can get it). - I will assist with shipping or in-person pickup of the car at your expense. I can hold the vehicle up to say 10-14 days to give you time to arrange for shipping if that's your preference. A deposit of $250 will be required at the end of the auction to hold the vehicle for shipping/pickup. I can accept a PayPal deposit. Cash payment for the car itself required before the car leaves my possession. I have a flexible work schedule so pick up on a weekday is an option.
