Car description |
---|
1953 Pontiac Chieftain Deluxe 2 door post - 350 SBC V8 and 3-speed automatic trans.
- Restomodded 30 years ago using 1969 Chevy Chevelle drivetrain, radiator, etc.
- Upgraded to 12v wiring 30 years ago
- 'Dual Streak' styling really stands out compared with the plain Fords and Chevys of this era.
- Chrome bumpers in fantastic shape
- All stainless steel trim is fantastic
- Original amber illuminated Indian hood ornament
- Steel wheels with chrome 'baby moon' hubcaps
- 30 year old respray in original green. Single stage enamel. The perfect patina - just add wax!
- Fully redone interior upholstery in great shape - one tear on the drivers seat.
I've owned this car for a year, but have only driven it a few times as we've been concentrating on rebuilding a vintage Airstream trailer. We were planning to use this Chieftain as the tow vehicle, but have changed our minds.
Work done in 2016-2017
- radiator repaired
- brake booster rebuilt
- master cylinder new
- new stainless exhaust pipes and muffler (replaced loud side pipes)
- new starter motor
- new Diamondback wide whitewalls
- new bushings, spacers
- all new engine mounts
- rebuilt carburetor (November 2017)
- brand new front disc brakes
- brand new rear air shocks
The bad:
- gas gauge may not work
- don't know if odometer works
- speedometer works but as with many old cars, bounces a bit when driving
- brake lights / interior dome light occasionally cut out
