1978 PONTIAC TRANS AM SPECIAL EDITION Y88,FACTORY 4 SPEED with WS6 Suspension

This is your opportunity to own a true collector Special Edition Y88 T/A! Making it even rarer is it afactory 4 speed Y88!

Odometer has less than 60K miles and believed to be actual miles. The original driver’s seat has very little wear indicating low miles on the car. It has the numbers matching correct WC coded W72 400 block. There is no reason to believe that it does not have the numbers matching 4 Speed and 3.42 Posi, but I did not inspect. This is an investment grade Trans Am that is set to sky rocket in value.

For investment appreciation a Special Edition Y88 will always outpace a standard non-SE Solar Gold T/A. Try to buy a very nice 1977 Y82 for what a standard 1977 T/A is selling for today...

The car was shipped to Washington State by Pontiac. In 2005 it was purchased and brought to the Portland area, driven for a year or so, and then was put into storage. Restoration started approximately 4 years ago with the body and paint work.

This is a factory non-A/C T/A.

The Y88 has the OEM tinted gold T Tops and the factory T-Top bags are included. The T/A came from factory with all of the other Y88 gold accents: gold grilles, gold steering wheel, gold horn button, gold dash bezel...the dash bezel has faded but underneath the bezel rings you can see the gold finish. Y88’s also had tan steering columns but a standard Solar Gold T/A came with a black steering column. Not all cowl tags specified Y88 and that is true on this one. I have supplied an image of the PHS documentation confirming this is an Y88.

T/A was professionally repainted with correct #50 Solar Gold. There is a small nick in the hood paint but likely the Phoenix decal will cover that area after buyer’s touch-up. Floor pans and trunk pan are solid. After the repaint an item in the trunk slide and put a small ding that protrudes out in the passenger quarter panel. There is also a buff mark in the clear coat below and behind the driver's door but that will rub out. This is a rust free T/A! Even the rear panel was re-painted correctly – see photo.

Car has the correct gold 15X8 Snowflakes for a Y88 and WS6 suspension. Also included are a space-saver spare, canister, and factory jack.

The Y88 got this far in the restoration and then has sat in the shop for a few years.

Car will need some light reassembly. All of the costly work is completed.Included with the Y88 is new front and rear seat upholstery still in the boxes, new window sweeps still packaged, new nose emblem, new lower door seals, and new carpet still in the box.The original upholstery is pictured and still looks good.A factory correct decal kit is also included. The original door panels are included and still look fine.Motivation for completing this Y88 is being directed in another area, and this works in your favor.

The 6X-4 heads and W72 intake were removed and the T/A has #13 Ram Air III heads, aftermarket intake, and Ram Air exhaust manifolds. If you want to swap back to the 6X-4 heads and W72 intake these items are very plentiful. Y88 has a correct W72 carburetor but is a 1977 carb. With the Ram Air Heads and Intake this T/A has quite a bit of power. Getting rubber in 3rdgear is no issue, in fact the tires have broken loose and the tail went sideways hitting 3rdgear on dry pavement when tried once 10 or so years ago. The engine runs strong and well.

This Y88 has dual catalytic converters, cross-flow exhaust, and Flow Masters.
