1988 FIREBIRD FORMULA 5.0L, T-TOPS, WS6, 50K ORIGINAL MILES, SHOWROOM QUALITY CAR
If you are looking for a stunning 100% turnkey, low mileage, fully sorted 3rd gen Firebird, look no further. This is a50k documented mile car, clean history, no accidents.
History:
This bird was purchased new in The Midwest by the original owner. The Bird car was his pride and joy and always garaged and pampered. Unfortunately, he passed away and the car was gifted to his family where it was sparingly used, spending most of its time stored in a garage when I found it. I purchased the car with 44,600 miles on the clock in 2013. I installed a new headliner, fuel pump, cleaned and detailed the car, purchased new tires, refinished the wheels, and had a lot of fun with it.
I sold the car to a retired airline pilot buyer who flew into NJ (I picked him up at the airport) and drove the car all the way to Austin Texas. That’s a 1800 mile drive! Before he drove away, I said if you ever decide to sell it, please call me first. The car was that good. A little over a year later, I received a call from the owner who said he could no longer keep the car, I promised to buy it back and that's what I did. Below is the list of work that was done by the previous owner; an incredible amount of work and care went into the car:
Professional Work Done:
Changed Oil & Filter (twice- 11/13 and 11/14)
Changed Transmission Fluid & Filter
New Fuel Pump
Changed Engine Coolant
Changed Differential Fluid (w/ Limited slip additive)
Flushed and changed Brake Fluid
Put in new thermostat
Put in new cooling "fan on" switch (195 deg)
Replaced an axle and brake cylinder seal
New Starter
Replaced upper and lower radiator hoses
Replaced both headlight motors
Converted the A/C System to R134 (Kit- new compressor, drier, expansion valve, tubing, etc)
Replaced all the Valve Guide seals ( now zero blue smoke on start-up. Done from the top by pressurizing each cylinder).
New Spark Plugs,
Bead blasted and re-painted valve covers
Balance Tires
Paint and Body:
Painted new spoiler (Hawks) to match red ext paint – perfect match.
Repainted silver on the bottom of drivers door and drivers lower door jamb where the paint was festered up probably due to cleaning chemicals in the past.
Done by the owner himself:
Extensively detailed the interior down to cleaning the inside of vents.
Custom carpeted floor mats w/ red Firebird logo (Firebird Central).
New leather boot around gearshift.
Generally tightened up all of the interior
Installed a new power antenna.
Radio repaired by M&R Electronics in MN, (right speaker balance wasn't working).
Installed a New Coolant Reservoir.
When I received the car back, it was even better than when I had first owned it. I was working on a 68 Firebird and a 73 Formula 455 at the time and really couldn't keep 3 birds so I wound up letting it go again this time to a car buff in Boston who meticulously cared for it the last two and a half years. Once again, seller’s remorse kicked in and I said if you ever want to sell it, let me know. So here we are in 2017 and the car is back in my possession. The Boston owner said its one of the best cars he’s ever owned. Here is a list of the maintenance he had performed on the car:
Front wheel bearings packed
Differential fluid change
New 180 thermostat
New heater core
Exterior:
The red paint is original and in excellent condition with a deep gloss shine. The original 16" wheels were refinished and look great. The T-tops are in excellent condition with no leaks. The spoiler is a Hawks replacement and is better than new, perfectly matched to the car’s original red paint. The lower body of the car has been professionally repainted silver. The tires are Goodyear Eagle GT II’s with 80% tread left on them. All glass and weather stripping is outstanding. Decals are in excellent condition. There are a couple small ping dents in the body - one on the driver door - hard to see, only on certain angles, and a small ping on the rear passenger quarter. Both are paintless dent repair candidates.
Interior:
The gray interior is awesome - great seats, carpet, dash, panels, seat belts, steering wheel, etc. etc. All gauges, horn, lights, radio, windows, work as they should. Headliner has been replaced and is in excellent condition.
Mechanical:
The 305 TBI looks and drives like new. Highly detailed engine compartment. The car is super tight. This is a strong driving / handling car. Brakes and steering are in excellent working order. Turn the key and go, gets 26 mpg highway and you can cruise with modern cars all day long. Ice cold AC.
Undercarriage:
The undercarriage is amazing - no rust.
Summary:
You can search for years and never find a 3rd gen this clean and well sorted. This car has been meticulously maintained by die hard Pontiac enthusiasts who truly care about their cars. This is one of the best examples available. The pictures are a true representation of the car. I welcome all bidders to inspect the car and see it for themselves. No disappoints, this is a great car and investment.
