Car description |
---|
I am selling a great survivor car that has been pampered over the last 28 years. I am selling only due to the fact that I purchased a new project car and no longer have space to store this beauty.
The car was purchased new at Perkins Pontiac-Buick in Kansas City, MO on July 17th, 1989. The original owner (I have the names of all owners) sold the car 8 months later to the second owner who kept the car until July 1992. The second owner sold it to a friend of his that had always admired the car. The 3rd owner had the car until the time of his death in 2015. The car was then sold to settle the estate. It passed between a couple of dealers and was then sold at auction where I purchased it on March 11, 2016.The car comes with original sales information and owners manual. I will also include a Firebird repair manual.
The car is very clean with original paint and interior. Up close you can find some door dings, small chips and scratches, and can see that the paint has been touched up on the hood. There is also a small dent where the right year quarter meets the bumper fascia. Not very noticeable. There is also a scuff on the interior surface of the rear hatch glass. These imperfections, in my opinion, are minor and do not detract from the over all appearance of the car.
I replaced the original plastic t-tops with glass t-tops. One of the plastic tops had cracked due to body flex. The glass tops are much nicer but are heavier. All seals and weatherstrips are very nice. I cannot guarantee that the tops won't leak as I have not driven the car in the rain. I rebuilt the headlamp motors and both headlights pop up quickly and simultaneously. I also replaced the original tires (see last pic with original tire date code 239 = 23rd week of 1989). New tires have less 500 miles on them. Car has new halogen headlamps, hood and liftgate struts, and other minor maintenance items.
The interior is amazing. There is minimal wear throughout the entire interior. The headliner material is a little wrinkled but is a minor issue. I replaced the original am/fm cassette radio with a new RetroSound unit that includes bluetooth and USB inputs. Lights up red/orange just like the other dash lights. I will include the original radio with the car. I replaced all the interior courtesy lights with LEDs as the OEM bulbs were just too dim. I also replaced the center console trim plate as it was a little worn. New embroidered floor mats were added and really make the interior pop!
The car runs and drives great. Everything on the car works except the A/C. I recharged it with R12 last summer. It blew ice cold for one day. The next morning, when I turned on the A/C, an unusual smell came from the vents. My best guess is that the evaporator has a leak. I didn't bother to go any further with repairs since I typically only drive the car on nice days with the tops off.
I will sell this car for less than I have in it but will not give it away. Storage space is relatively cheap where I live and this car will appreciate in value given its original condition.
I have described the car based on my knowledge of the vehicle. Everyone has different views on the quality of a car. Most flaws I have described have gone unnoticed by those that have seen the car at cruise nights and car shows. Pictures help but nothing replaces seeing the car in person. I encourage you, if possible, to inspect the car before making an offer or selecting "Buy it Now". There is no warranty or guarantee. What works today may not work tomorrow with a 28 year old vehicle. Ask questions. I have more pictures as well, including the underbody if interested.
A non-refundable $500 deposit is required via Paypal within 24 hours of purchase. Balance of payment is to be by CASH or CERTIFIED CHECK. Certified check must clear my bank prior to delivery or shipment. Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer. My schedule is very flexible and I will do my best to work with your shipping company should you use one.
Thanks for viewing!
NOTE:The AutoCheck score is not accurate and should be much higher. Based on documentation I have, I believe the Iowa Motor Vehicle Dept record, dated 9/16/2015, is not accurate. The title that was transferred to me is a Nebraska title dated 9/14/2015 (copy of title available). This title states "Actual" miles when originally issued and in the subsequent reassignments. I personally replaced the original tires that had a "239" date code that indicates 23rd week of 1989. I have a clear Kansas title that shows actual mileage of 40533.
