Car description

This multiple First-Place award winner at Pontiac shows. Having been beautifully restored and scrutinized by marque experts. Built at GM’s plant in Kansas City, Missouri, it was optioned with a four-speed gearbox, tri-power carburetion, push-button radio, tachometer, deluxe steering wheel, and Safe-T-Track rear axle, as per Pontiac Historical Society documents on file, which also confirm its matching-numbers engine. This original Tr-Power Car with 4-speed manual gearbox originally finished in Sunfire Red over a black interior, chassis 824M9010 was initially retailed at Superior Pontiac in San Antonio, TX.This particular GTO waspurchased by Ora Govett as a gift for her son, according to letters in the GTO’s file. In 1977, the Pontiac was acquired by fellow San Antonio resident James G. Brown. He sold the car in 1983 to Mark Panning of Findlay, Ohio, the principal of the eponymous oil company. Mr. Panning researched its history and set about a photo-documented full restoration, which still presents with striking authenticity. In 2008, the GTO was shown by Mark Kline of Fullerton, California, at the Palos Verdes Concours d’Elegance and at several marque events, as reflected by an array of trophies. Awards included two class wins at the All-Pontiac Car Shows between 2008 and 2010, and first at the B.O.P. Car Show in 2010. The GTO’s glove box was signed in 2009 by Pontiac marketing godfather Jim Wangers, who wrote, “This is one beautiful rare ’64…Wow!” The car’s high-level restoration and well-researched and documented history make this an outstanding early example of the iconic GTO.
