1961 Pontiac Monte Carlo Two Door Convertible Concept Car. The official name was the XP-741 Special Convertible. Shown by General Motors in 1961 and 1962 at all the major car shows, this Monte Carlo VIN# 16XPX11 is the ONLY one of it's kind in the world.

This two seat sports car comes equipped with a disappearing soft top, 215 inch Aluminum Block V8 mated to a 4 Speed transaxle transmission and a specially designed heavy duty suspension for all four corners. The inner headlamps were specially designed for long distance driving ( a predecessor to Xenon lamps ) . Designed with a short wheelbase for sports car type handling.

The car has unique designs that were all part of the experimental concepts at the time. It has custom made stainless steel cove moldings, specially designed instrumentation including a tachometer, racing inspired custom bucket seats and three spoke wood trimmed sports steering wheel.

Finished in show car Pearlescent White with dual Blue racing stripes, custom Dark Blue leather interior, custom seat belts, full floor length brushed aluminum center console, custom designed drop top that completely hides away when in the down position and much more.

This is one of the few Concept Cars that were actually made to be driven. It has just been fully sorted and is ready for any show or long distance trip.

Originally owned by Edward Cole, the President of General Motors who gave it to his son to take to college. It then spent many years in a museum in San Antonio Texas where it was prominently displayed.

It has a fully documented history showing it's show car display outings and ownership.

This is one of only a few General Motors Concept Cars that is actually road worthy. After it's show service where it was displayed with a half windshield and Halibrand Knock Off Wheels, it was fitted with a operational soft top, full windshield, roll up windows. wiper motor and all that was necessary for daily use.

The cost of building and developing this car in 1961 exceeded $250,000. In today's money, that would equal over $2,000,000.

If you desire a one of a kind car that you are guaranteed not to see anyone else driving at any car show or gathering, please consider this amazing historic automobile.
