CALIFORNIA BLACK PLATE 1968 PONTIAC FIREBIRD WITH REBUILT CHEVROLET 383 MOTOR AND REBUILT 4 SPEED! OVER $20K INVESTED!
BELEIVED TO BE A RARE "CAMMER" MOTOR CAR!
We just picked up this super clean 1968 Pontiac Firebird. It is a California Black plate car that is in unbelievablecondition. The previous owner took it apart to do the bodywork. He spent over $20K and put a ton of work into it and then never was able to complete the project. Believed to be an original 250 OCH six cylinder "Cammer" (see below paragraph for more) motor car, it now has a rebuilt or crate 383 motor and a rebuilt 4 speed. The motor appears to have had some work done, as it is running roller rockers. As far as the actual specs, we are not sure what else was done/used for the build. From what we can tell, all of the original parts are there to complete the car. There are also some extra parts that the owner had bought. All of the parts look to be in very good condition. The speedo reads 52545 and based upon the condition of the car and the parts, we believe that to be the original miles. It also has upgraded upper and lower tubular A arms and upgraded disc brakes. It is ready to go to paint and would be pretty easy project to complete, as all of the parts are there.
"Cammer"This 1968 Firebird is believed to originally be a rare 250 cubic inch OHC inline six cylinder known as the “Cammer”. This Cammer engine was the brainchild of John X. DeLorean when he headed Pointiac’s advanced engineering team in the early 1960s. Due to the popularity of the big V8 engines during this time, the inline six did not sell well, making these very rare. There is a 250 OHC motor listed for sale on eBay now for $900 OBO if you wanted to bring the car back to the 250 OHC motor.
Exterior:The car was originally Alpine Blue, but received the current red delivery at some point. The previous owner had ground through the paint in the common areas to see if there was any rust or repairs, which was a shame, as most of the areas were mint. We have since primed the areas to prevent the metal from rusting. As you can see in the pictures the car is very rock solid and rust free. There are only a couple of areas that have rust or repairs: the lower driver's rear quarter which is cut out (new filler panel included), the passenger rear quarter looks to have a little repair work as well, so it would make sense to do that one too. There is a small area on the lower part of the driver's door and one small spot the size of a nickel on the driver's quarter. The rest of the car is rock solid - floors, doors, sills, trunk, etc.
Interior:
Based upon the Body Tag the car appears to have had a Teal interior. It now has a black interior, but all of the panels appear to be original. It comes with the rear seat and two very nice buckets believedto be out of a second gen Firebird / Camaro. All of the interior components appear to be there an in good condition. It does appear to be missing one door panel.
Mechanical:As mentioned, the car is believed to have been a 250 OHC / 4 Speed car. The previous owner has bought a Chevrolet 383 that appears to have some money put into the build as it is running aluminum roller rockers. We were told it was just built/rebuilt, but we don't have any other details on what had been done or what other internals were used. The 4 Speed manual transmission was also rebuilt and it has a 10 bolt rear end. It comes with a set of brand new set of Thorley long tube headers, a newer exhaust with Flowmasters and all of the other parts and pieces needed to get it back together running. We have a Holley carburetor we will include, butthe motor does need a water pump and alternator and main drive pulley.
