Car description

When I bought this car 9 years ago...Scrolled across the front window was listed "For Sale - This is the last of the Pontiac 400's". Indeed, this was the last year for the Pontiac 400!
For sale is a rust free Tennessee car that I purchased 9 years ago. This is a real deal W72 400 4-Speed car with the WS6 package. I have the build sheet as shown and also have PHS. It was completely rust free except for the decklid (under the spoiler where water would sit). I replaced the decklid and performed a 2 year interior and exterior restoration in which I tried to keep as many original parts as possible. The original owner performed a mechanical restoration and had the engine rebuilt, and I finished the body and interior. The car was born with solar gold paint and a camel tan interior, and this was how I wanted to bring it back. I was told the engine is original to the car but have not been able to find the numbers. The car has a Borg Warner Super T-10, that I am doubting is original to the car - as the speedometer reads high. I don't know the actual mileage on the car due to the speedometer being replaced with a 160 mph unit from a 1970-1974 car.
This car runs and drives perfectly and can be driven anywhere. I would take off on a weekend road trip and put 400-500 miles on it without a worry. Over the past 7 years, I've typically driven 1000-4000 miles per year. I refer to the car as "being dialed in quite nicely".
Listed below are details pertaining to the car:
Mechanicals:
  • Engine rebuilt by previous owner about 15K miles ago and with the 6X heads - I have the receipt- Engine runs great with excellent power
  • The electronic choke works and is set properly
  • Hooker Super Comp headers and an Edelbrock 850 carb were installed - I no longer have the original carb. No hesitation and great acceleration.
  • Hotchkis suspension components
  • 4 Wheel Wilwood disc brakes with cross-drilled rotors
  • The A/C system was converted from R12 to R134A and blows cold - The original condenser was used, so it doesn't blow as cold as modern cars
  • Windshield wipers and washers work well
  • The car will leak a drop or two of oil and/or gear oil as it currently sits for extended periods of time
  • The battery was just replaced last week
Exterior:
  • The body was rust free and stripped down to bare metal - I do have pictures of the restoration
  • The car was painted in the original Solar Gold
  • The car has excellent depth for a metallic color, and there isn't a single spot of orange peel on the car
  • The decals were precisely applied per the factory shop manual
  • Windows are all original
  • There is a very small crack in the base/clear on the passenger side C-pillar as shown in the picture above - There is also a very small similar crack in the front bumper cover
  • The WS6 wheels are in overall good condition, as the factory powder coating is still intact
Interior:
  • The front seats were recovered and new foam was added
  • The rear seats are original to the car and show slight fading on the top - They were in too good of condition to replace
  • The dash is original and shows some slight warping but is in very good condition for being 37 years old
  • The gauge cluster has a speedometer from a 1970-1974 car, and the speedometer reads high
  • All gauges (except for the speedometer) work as they should - Yes, the clock works too
  • The carpet was replaced and is still in nearly new condition
  • The car has a new headliner
  • Some of the interior plastic pieces are somewhat brittle and discolored due to age
  • The radio works but the speakers do not and I believe they are original - This was something I never got around to replacing, as I'd rather listen to that Pontiac 400 through Super Comp headers
  • I tried to keep as many of the original interior pieces as possible to maintain an original feel to the car
The reason I'm selling is due to life changes, as the car has only been driven sparingly over the past year and currently resides in a storage unit. Feel free to contact me with any questions or to request an inspection.
