The great thing about vintage Pontiacs, well, besides the fact that they are vintage Pontiacs, is the fact that Pontiac Historic Services can confirm the provenance of almost every one of them. No other mass-market brand, aside from maybe Ford and their beloved Mustang, maintained such detailed factory records. And that means: when we tell you a car like this fully restored GTO is a factory-correct showstopper, we have the paperwork to back it up. Awarded Best in Class at the 2008 Pontiac Nationals, this stunning hardtop mixes a hot Tri-power drivetrain with correct Platinum over Black aesthetics. And if you're a wise enthusiast who's looking for an impressive classic that'll roll straight out of the showroom and right on to the show field, it's your chance to grab a tiger by the tail!

BODYWORK/TRIM

Believed to be a 3-owner classic, this award-winning A-Body is the beneficiary of a body-off restoration that was completed in the summer of 2007. The car's clean and solid profile, an essentially rust-free shell that was fully stripped and fitted with fresh floors, wears a rich coat of correct Platinum 2-stage that, according to the current owner, has seen roughly 300 miles of road time. And, as is the case with most big show winners, trim and ornamentation are exactly as the factory specified. At the front of this Pontiac's body, a flashy dual-port grille founds ornate parking lamps and a prominent "GTO" emblem between a fresh bumper and stacked T3 headlights. At the top of the car, a broad hood centers a small scoop and monochromatic arrowhead in front of fresh glass that's framed in straight stainless, mirrored wipers and correct Black vinyl. At the sides of the car, flowing pinstripes and sporty GTO emblems add a little class, while traditional door handles and a polished mirror perfectly complement requisite wheel lips and dent-free rocker moldings. And out back, a stainless-trimmed valance hangs louvered taillights and wide "P O N T I A C" lettering between and a fourth "GTO" emblem and a second bumper that's finished with clear reverse lamps.

ENGINE

Pop the hood and the first thing you'll notice is a 389 cubic inch Pontiac V8 that's been completely rebuilt and wrapped in attractive Turquoise skin. At the top of the block, familiar Rochester carburetors bridge the gap between polished air cleaners, bright stainless fluid lines and a correct, cast iron intake. That intake rides between correct heads, which hang a polished AC breather over attractive, polished valve covers. A familiar points distributor jolts spark through fresh Packard Radio TVRS cables. Cooling is provided by a shrouded and decaled radiator, which sends water around a traditional fan via pliable hoses and reproduction tower clamps. Charge comes courtesy of a freshly rebuilt alternator and tagged Delco battery. Charred dinosaurs float through old school exhaust manifolds. And aesthetically, the car's impressive engine bay is fully detailed, from its smooth black fenders and matted hood all the way to its yellow carb spring and fresh AC fuel filter.

DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION

Logging strictly sunny day miles since their thorough restoration, this goat's fresh floors and super clean frame are completely free of significant issues and major defects. The stout 389 sends power to a Muncie M22 Rock Crusher, which spins a trusty 12-bolt axle that's finished with big, 3.73 gears. At the sides of that rock-solid drivetrain, quality Gardener pipes connect the aforementioned manifolds with brash turbo mufflers. At the sides of that booming soundtrack, a heavy duty suspension features boxed rear control arms and a thick rear sway bar. Correct optional power steering plays well with a quartet of power-assisted disc brakes. Muscle meets the pavement through fully dressed Rally Is, which spin 215/70R15 BF Goodrich Silvertown Radial redlines in front of 225/70R15 BF Goodrich Silvertown Radial redlines. And absolutely everything, from this Poncho's fresh stainless fuel tank to its IMI Performance Products Hi Torque starter, is aligned, sorted and ready to cruise!

INTERIOR

Open this coupe's doors and you'll find a correct Black interior that's simple yet sporty. Front and center, correct bench and bucket seats wrap bright chrome trim around correct vinyl hides. Those hides look great next to a wood and teal-trimmed dash, which anchors requisite Rally Gauges above a correct AM/FM radio. On the floors, new carpet founds a classy Hurst shifter and stylish, chrome-trimmed console between thick, GTO-themed floor mats and classy, Fisher-themed sills. At the sides of the car, fresh door panels hang new chrome handles under straight trim and brilliant GTO insignias. In front of the driver, a Custom Sport Steering Wheel spins a faux wood rim around a Teal, Pontiac-branded horn button. And behind the passengers, a clean trunk sandwiches a correct jack and full-size spare tire between a standard mat and requisite decklid decal.
