Car description

For consideration this beautiful 1968 GTO in excellent running condition. I purchased this car while attending college in 1988 from a local mechanic. He restored it sometime in the mid eighties and since it was so nice I had to drop a pretty penny even back then. I drove the car a few times during the summer of 89'. I then moved South and the car remained in storage (in Dubuque Iowa), t was only used a few times each year just to keep things running smooth. I ended up needing money along the way and so I used it as leverage to take out a couple loans (from family) so while the cars title changed names (parents one time and cousin another) it stayed in the garage the duration of the loans. Now recently I paid off the latest loan my mom and dad gave me (for a successful business venture), o I can now sell the car. I do need the money for considerable home repairs and this is my best option. The car has a non-salvage clear Iowa title in my name. The car's paint is good but it does have a couple tiny chips and scuffs here and there, ard to see unless close up. The rear trunk lid has some grey overspray speckles in the finish, nce again hard to see unless close up. The steering column (interior side) does have a small patch of paint flaked off the center (on right hand side). The interior is excellent, he carpet and headliner show very little wear as does the rest of it. There is a small ding in the passenger door which you can see in the right light. The glass is good except there are rub scratches in the rear right passenger window and a rub scratch on the passenger door. The passenger door is also missing the weather strip. The body is solid and has no rust. The undercarriage is solid as a rock as well, s is the floor boards and trunk floor. The drivetrain is working as it should and the 4 speed transmission shifts as it should. The engine runs strong and sounds great, o smoke no lifter noise.Recently we checked the engine numbers and it turned out to be a 1972 455. So this is NOT a numbers matching car, nd while everything appears to be a GTO there is nothing here that states it is all original, he car was restored many years ago and it's possible that other GTO parts were used or Lemans parts. So I want to be up front about that so there are no disappointments after the sale. In fact the ram air hood is apparently from a 69 or 70 Judge since the 68 model apparently did not come with ram air. Included is the ram air plate which bolts under the hood, ut not included is the duct bowl which sits on top of the carb. It's extremely rare to find one of these bowls and I had no luck. I also have, omewhere in my storage unit, he flapper pull cable and under dash mounting plate. If I can locate it it will go with the car. The limited slip rear end seems to be working fine. I had air shocks installed it around 2001 and all new exhaust. The original radiator was replaced with a used one not long after I bought the car, ut I did keep the old one although it is unrepairable or so I was told. The engine compartment looks clean and is pretty much stock except the electronic ignition was updated in 2001 as well. The engine wiring could use some tidying up. The check engine light is on and when you depress the emergency brake it gets brighter, o there's an issue there. Also the heater blower only works on low and high. The brakes could use replacing although they do not make noise, hen braking it does pull to the right slightly. The electric windows all work, ut the controls are a bit sticky on a couple and you have to jiggle the switch a couple times to get the window to go up and an down. The tires were replaced new in 2008 and have very little wear. All things considered the car is in fantastic shape considering it's age. A true American relic. Please do not ask to end the auction early unless you are serious and willing to offer a fair price. The buyer is responsible for pick up or we can assist in arranging shipping.Cash payment is preferred at the time of pick up.Sold as is with no warranty.NOTE: this is listed on Craigslist (search Dubuque Iowa), eel free to check it for updates to the description and or photos, ince eBay does not allow edits after a bid has been placed. This listing will be deleted and any bids cancelled immediately should the car sell locally.
