Car description

This 1956 Plymouth Fury has been owned by me for the last 45 years and never ever been offered for sale before. The Fury was owned originally by Bill Williams, from Georgia. He graduated in about 1958 from George Washington High School I am told. The car was originally a stock Fury with automatic transmission. To improve it's performance the car was changed over to stick shift and work done by the local Chrysler Plymouth Dealership. Later that year Bill's grandfather passed on and left Bill a very very large inheritance. Bill who loved performance cars and went to the Chrysler Plymouth Dealership and asked what was the biggest modification to improve the performance of the Fury. The Dealership mechanics informed him installing a new 1958 factory 392 Chrysler 300-D engine with the factory high lift cam and solid lifter would take the horsepower to 390. With plenty of cash he had the dealership install the Chrysler 300-D engine. The car was also put in many car shows which were very popular in the late 50's and 60's Half way through the installation the Dealership informed Bill that the extra weight of the 392 Hemi engine should have the addition of the larger Chrysler 300-D front suspension which had much bigger brakes, bigger springs, heavy duty shocks, heavy sway bar and heavier rear springs and shock absorbers. .He soon found out the engine was too much power for the heavy duty Mopar police / taxi standard transmission. Two older mechanics advised Bill that the only bullet proof transmission that could handle that amount of power in his 56 Hemi Fury would be the Cadillac La Salle or the Packard 12 cylinder standard transmission. So Bill had the standard heavy duty stick transmission taken out and replaced it with a Cadillac La Salle transmission. The car was then taken to the drag strip to see what the performance increase was, and at that time set two new drag strip records. Now just when things are going beautiful for Bill, he gets his draft notice from Uncle Sam. Doing his time in the service his father for a reason unknown to me sold Bill's car. (Bill may not have returned from Vietnam) I bought his 56 stick shift Hemi Fury from a guy who bought the Fury off of Bill's dad for his young son as a father and son project. That was before the father realized it was way too much power to put in the hands of his teenage son. I purchased it from the father who had the young son. I have owned the car for approximately 45 years. The Fury has been kept in storage since then in the back of my climate controlled garage with a car cover over it. I have driven the car very very short distances for oil changes, gas, state inspection, and maybe a parade now and then. Mileage on the car's engine is about 500 to 800 miles. I was told by experts to keep it exactly original at all cost and not to change anything major on the car since it has all the original work in place since 1958--beautiful scatter shield, drive shaft safety metal strap, oversize shocks, and special Chrysler springs, 4:10 sure grip rear end, etc, etc, etc. This is a very specia Fury, because it has a great history and was owned by very serious Mopar guy that went all the way to the limit in 1958.
Since I am offering it for sale I have: Replace the battery with a super heavy duty battery. Replace the entire exhaust system on both sides.( Sounds great!!!!)
Replace all 4 wheel cylinders and brake shoes. Repainted the car with factory correct color egg shell white paint and added several layers of clear coat all done by C&S Restoration Company) Replaced the rocker panels.(they had a small amount of rust and I didn't want them patched) Replaced fuel pump with high flow Chrysler 300-D factory optional fuel pump. Rebuilt both 4 bbl carburetors and replaced with factory stock Chrysler factory air filters. Has radiator cleaned flushed, painted and antifreeze added. Replaced water pump because original had some drips. Repainted engine to factory orange Hemi color with black crinkle valve covers. ( a real attention gether ) Rear seat shelf factory size 4 X 6 radio speaker has been replaced with factory new one. Tires have been replace with the proper size big white walls Radials. Still have it's original 56 spare tire and wheel from 50's. Car needs the following thing done to it at the present time. Brand new factory gas tank sending unit still in original box needs installed. Temperature gauge has need of a proper clip on fitting. (maybe new screw in sending unit.)
Cast iron side vent window need re-plated. (chrome is nice but pitted)
Front bumper has very small dent. An emergency brake needs hooked up to rear end.
Driver door window is has crack, and I have brand new replacement window for it.
Radio antenna needs installed, it was taken off when car was painted. I have new one for it.
One of the main reasons I am offering this car for sale is I had hunted down my original 56 Plymouth Fury that was my very first car years ago when I was a teenager and after finding it I bought it-- this Hemi powered Fury was put on display in the back of the garage which is also a 1950 decorated restaurant room.. You can see my other Fury in this ads photographs. I do not need two 56 Fury's at my age (almost 80) so one has to go, and maybe both will be sold because of serious health problems with my wife and me having a very bad back.
FOOTNOTE: MY FIRST CHOICE WOULD BE TO SELL THE CAR TO, ( BILLY ) WILLIAMS WHO OWNED AND HAD THE 56 FURY HEMI BUILT. (if he is still alive and returned from tour of duty.) I AM OFFERING $100 DOLLAR REWARD TO ANYONE WHO CAN PUT ME IN TOUCH WITH HIM. THANK YOU.-------- PLEASE SERIOUS INQUIRES ONLY.
