Car description

1971 Plymouth Duster (VL29G1E139xxx) 340c.i. auto with bucket seats, stunning B7 Blue paint, power steering and front disc brakes! The Duster was a factory 318 car and has been upgraded to the 340. This is truly an awesome example of a performance street/show car that is very tastefully restored and retained many of it’s stock items. The Duster’s 340 is actually stroked to a 422c.i. small block making 452HP on the dyno all on pump gas and being extremely street friendly!!! The Duster was built to be a fun street/show car not a race car. The Duster has a sharkstooth grille, bucket seats, Turbo Action shifter and console, 8 ¾ rear with 4.10 gears, posi traction, front disc brakes, power steering, original AM radio, stunning high gloss B7 Blue base/clear paint, 340 side and trunk stripe, six pack fiberglass hinged hood, 15” Weld wheels, fender mount turn signals and a ton of very high end engine, suspension and performance items I will mention later! I just finished a light freshen-up restoration from top to bottom and has been completely checked over. All of the body numbers match on the rad support, VIN tag, original fender tag and still has the original door VIN decal with a build date of 2 - 1971. This is an absolutely beautiful car and one of the nicest 1971 Dusters that you will find in this price range in this condition and a CA car with all it’s original sheet metal!!! Many receipts from the build and a color copy of the California title from 1995 will be included in the sale. The Duster was also in the January 2015 issue of Mopar Muscle Magazine for a Dyno shootout at the Mopar Nationals!

Paint and body

The body is in excellent shape and all the panels appear to be original and are very straight with excellent body lines! The super high-gloss deep clear coat shine was just professionally wet sanded with 2000, 2,500 and 3000 grit paper to achieve a high caliber ultra finish. This long process alone took over 50 hours and the finish shows it! The Duster’s sheet metal is believed to be original and you can clearly see all the factory spot welds. The trunk floor, trunk extensions, floor boards and frame rails are super clean and original. The CA bodied Duster was painted over 15 years ago (PPG base/clear) and looks like it just came out of the paint booth and looks fantastic! There are only a couple flaws in the paint. There are a few very small chips that have been brush touched-up and only a couple very small scratches that were also touched-up (shown in photos). These are very minor but I like to be descriptive as possible and are shown in the other photos. The bottoms of the doors and wheel well lips are also clean and in excellent shape! The six pack fiberglass hood is the good AAR made in the USA hinged hood that is painted organisol black. The doors open and close excellent with the ease of a finger and even the door latches and strikers were cleaned and polished. PLEASE CALL ME AT 412-496-1439 AND I WILL BE GLAD TO DO A COMPLETE WALK AROUND OF THE DUSTER, THANKS, CHAD.

GLASS, CHROME AND TRIM

The glass is in very good condition with only a few very minor marks. The front windshield is newer and in excellent shape. The passenger side glass and rear glass have a few minor scratches but overall very nice condition. The driver side door glass has several marks and scratches but none really deep and have never been an issue (they may buff out). All windows operate as should. The front and rear bumpers are in excellent condition and appear to have been rechromed. The window trim is very clean and was polished for optimum shine.

INTERIOR

The interior has been restored and has newer seat covers, newer carpet, trunk divider, headliner, speaker shelf, chrome arm rest bases and pads and door sill plates. The factory gauge cluster is in very nice condition. All the gauges work and operate correctly. Mopar water temp. and oil pressure have been added for accuracy. All lighting works as should including the high/low beams, dome light, tail lights, parking lights, turn signals, four-way flashers, and license plate light. The factory AM radio also works. The E-brake, defrosters, heater, fan, horn and dimmer switch as should. The speedometer works great as well as the odometer. All the A/C dash components and switch controls are all there as only the A/C stuff in the engine bay was removed and was working when remove a few years ago.

DRIVE TRAIN

The very strong running 340 stroker is a 422 c.i. street engine that makes 452hp at 5,500 rpm (343hp at the rear tires) and made 511ft-lbs of torque all on pump gas with 9.5:1 compression. It is an absolute blast to drive and would not hesitate to drive this car anywhere! The 340 was rebuilt by the previous owner in March of 2014 and I have all the info on the engine and dyno sheets to go with the car. It has a Mopar hydraulic cam .533 lift, Indy TA high flow aluminum heads with 2.05 intake valves, Diamond pistons, H-beam rods, steel crank, ARP bolts and topped off with a Edelbrock RPM air gap intake and 750cfm Quick Fuel black diamond carb with electric choke. The excellent sounding exhaust comes from the best headers ever made for a small block Mopar the TTI nickle chrome 1 ¾ inch tubes with 2 ½ inch pipes and Flowmaster mufflers! The 1972 340 has a casting date of 9-27-71 and a casting number of 2780930-340-5. It is cooled by an excellent Wizards aluminum radiator and aluminum fan shroud. The rebuilt HD 727 transmission shifts beautifully whether it be easy street driving or performance driving! It is backed up by a 10” street Turbo Action convertor and HD flex plate. The 8 ¾ has 4.10 gears and a posi center section. The suspension has been done a few years ago and is in great shape. It has been checked over and has newer tie-rod ends, brand new tubular upper and lower control arms with new bushings, newer idler arm, newer front/rear shocks, rear leaf springs and new front end alignment. This perfect drive train combo has excellent performance, cools great and handles awesome. This is a very tight and excellent running show condition 340 Duster!

I typically restore and finish around 10 Mopars a year and have been working on them for more than 30 years. I do every one as if it were my own to keep. I put a lot of time, effort, pride and money in the cars I offer for sale which is evident when viewing one of my cars compared to others for sale. This is one of the few cars you can view in person and say that it is actually nicer than the photos. I strongly believe the first person to view the car in person will buy it!!!
