Plymouth created a winner in Road Runner. After selling more than 40,000 in 1968, the company sold almost 80,000 in 1969 and nabbed “Motor Trend’s” Car of the Year award. Perhaps the most noted in that model were the examples featuring the 440 Six Pack engine, a new release produced in short numbers late in production. Continuing that legacy is this 1969 Road Runner that has been driven just more than 2,xxx miles since it’s refreshing. Finished in a bright yellow hue with custom black ‘bumblebee‘ Road Runner stripe, this car has been built with the idea of street power front and center. It features 440 Six Pack callouts on the lift-off fiberglass hood, correctly denoting the reworked Chrysler big-block and trio of Holley carburetors underneath. Upgrades here include Hooker headers, custom air cleaners, an abundance of chrome details, modern ignition components, an aluminum radiator, and smoothed firewall and inner fender covers. The lift-off hood comes with stands for show use. Behind the engine is a Chrysler 4-speed transmission with Hurst Pistol Grip shifter. Inside is a custom black bucket-seat interior, wood-rimmed steering wheel on a tilt steering column, in-dash Auto Meter gauges, and Vintage Air climate control with Sanden compressor. Handling is made easy with power steering, power brakes with front discs, suspension components. Finished with chrome mirrors and bumpers, this car effectively portrays what the word ‘muscle car’ still means for many enthusiasts. The cost of building vehicles from the ground up continues to grow, and the remaining original M-coded 1969 Road Runners have become increasingly more expensive. This car, with its myriad custom design touches, RB-style 440 CI powerplant, 4-speed driveline and modern driving changes, offers an energetic combination of performance factors. Whether for on the road or on the showfield, you can also rest assured this special Road Runner is a true head turner.
