Car description |

1972 Plymouth Duster (VS29H2B384xxx) factory 340c.i. H-code car, pistol grip 4-speed transmission and factory FE5 Red paint! The Duster has the performance hood scoops for fresh air, original fender tag, black 340 Duster side stripe and black trunk stripe, sharktooth grill, factory AM/FM radio, front disc brakes, power steering, white bucket seats with console, factory torque boxes, gull wing, tuff steering wheel, dual exhaust with factory chrome tips and rallye wheels!!!
I just finished up a light restoration on this fine 340 Duster including: wet sanding/buffing, new carpet, arm rest pads/bases, electronic distributor, ECU box, rear shocks, Edelbrock carb, coil, temp sender, NGK plugs, Brad Penn oil, Taylor (made in USA) wires, cap and rotor, headlight switch, cleaned fuse box and replace fuses, added reverse light indicator, reverse light harness, restored console, Deka battery and correct hold-down, speaker shelf and trunk divider, E-brake handle, side marker lens, motor mounts, rallye wheel trim rings and much more! Although not a 100 point concourse show car... it will certainly garner respect and hold it's own at any show or car cruise. I would consider the Duster a very nice driver that you can take anywhere and enjoy it!
I typically restore or finish around 10 Mopars a year and have been working on them for more than 30 years and I do everyone as they were my own to keep. I put a lot of time, effort, pride and money in the cars that I offer for sale which is evident when viewing one of my cars compared to others for sale. All of the body numbers match on the radiator support, VIN tag, fender tag, door VIN decal and on the speaker shelf/trunk divider area. You must check these numbers to authenticate that it is a real 340 Duster. This is an absolutely beautiful 340 car with stunning curb appeal and correct factory color with a pistol grip 4-speed transmission!
PAINT AND BODY
The body is in excellent shape and the panels are very nice with very good seems and panel fit. The super high-gloss shine was just professionally wet sanded with 2000, 2500, 3000 and 5000 grit paper to achieve the high caliber ultra shine finish. This long process alone took over 50 hours and the finish shows it!The Dusters sheet metal is believed to be mostly original with only the lower quarters, trunk extension work and some minor trunk floor work done. The floor boards, rockers, fenders, hood, doors and frame rails are super clean and appear original. The Duster was painted several years ago but is still in unbelievable nice condition and still has that deep wet look shine! There are a few very small fish eyes in the paint on the roof and a few very minor paint blems on the hood but has no blisters or rust issues and overall still looks great! The paint is what I would call a "nice driver" and rate it a 7.5 out of 10. The doors open and close excellent with the ease of a finger and even the door latches and strikers were cleaned and polished. The sharktooth grill is in nice shape for a driver and has 1 small crack on the bottom center but nice condition. The overall body is very nice on the Duster and even the wheel well lips are clean and not full of fillers. For the price range of this car and options you will not be dissapointed for the money spend!
GLASS, CHROME AND TRIM
The glass is in nice condition for original with but does have a few marks and scratches. The front windshield is pretty nice and only has very light wiper marks. The side glass is in very nice condition. The LH/RH door glass have some marks and scratches but overall not bad for a driver. The rear glass is pretty good and only has a few minor scratches. All windows and locks operate as should. The front bumper and rear bumper looks to be rechromed or newer and have very good chrome. The window trim is very clean and was polished for optimum shine but still has a few minor marks.
INTERIOR
The interior was re-done with new carpet, door arm rest pads and bezels, trunk divider, speaker shelf, dash pad, restored console and new E-brake handle. The factory gauge cluster is in very nice condition and appears to have been restored. The seat covers are in nice condition but there are 3 pencil tip size small holes. All factory gauges work and operate correctly. All lighting works as should including the high/low beams, dome light, tail lights, parking lights, turn signals, four-way flashers and license plate light. The factory AM/FM radio also works great. The E-brake, defrosters, heater, fan, horn, speedometer and dimmer switch all work as should. I added the amber reverse light indicator for the 4-speed. Also has a new reverse light harness and switch. The rear-view mirror has some marks in the mirror part and could be changed. There are water and oil Autometer gauges added for accuracy.
DRIVE TRAIN / SUSPENSION
The 340 makes excellent power, runs very strong through all the gears and sounds great. The 1971 340 was rebuilt a few years ago(previous owner) to 1971 340 specs and has a steel crank. It has 9:1 compression, adjustable rockers, Lunati Voodoo cam, head work, forged pistons, bored .030 over, Eagle I-beam rods and moly ringes. The original 340 was long gone before I got the Duster. The 1971 340 gives an excellent range of power and maintains good vacuum as should. It has 2.02 "J" heads with some minor porting for a better flow and a 3-angle valve job. The factory 340 manifolds are correct 1972 part # 3614368. I only use the Brad Penn High Performance oil, which was changed and is ready to go! It is one of the best oils on the market and already has the higher Zinc added in for older cars. The 340 has a casting date of 1-20-71 and engine casting # is 2780930-340-2. The engine I.D. flat badge number is 1B450777 (near the oil pan). The I.D. numbers below the LH head are GM (1971/Mound Road plant) 340 P 3562 0091 The 340 is topped of with the correct 340 1972 intake # 3671918 and has a newer Edelbrock series 750 cfm carb with electric choke. The carb has more of a lean tune for street driving and all purpose use. The newer restored radiator is a heavy duty 4-core. It cools excellent even on hotter summer days! The pistol grip 4-speed transmission is a 1972 (PP833 3972 0030 on the ID surface) and is absolutely awesome and a blast to drive! The Duster was a factory 3-speed on the floor (D13) and was upgraded to the 4-speed. It has a McCleod street clutch and pressure plate that is very close to stock and easy for driving to cruises and shows. The dust/inspection cover is missing on the bottom of the 4spd. if I locate one I will have it on for the new owner. The rear end is a 8 3/4 with 3.55 posi center and a 741 case number on it. It has stock leaf springs, hangers and newer KYB front/rear shocks. The front suspension was completely done by the previous owners and is in great shape. It was very nicely done and everthing was cleaned and painted. Also has a front sway bar with new end links and bushings. This excellent drive train combo has very good performance and handles great in all conditions whether highway or city driving. This is a very tight and excellent smooth running and driving 340 4-speed Duster!
