1965 Plymouth FURY I
RARE SURVIVOR 2 Dr Post / Hardtop
FULL Frame-on Restorations & Rebuilds
Bucket Seats / Dual Exhaust / Power Steering / AM-FM Stereo
1965 FURY I was the base model, of which ¾ of the total production was for 4 door sedan vehicles; marketed mostly as police, taxi and corporate fleet vehicles. The rarer 2 door post sedan was also sought after by many in the street & track racing circuit, as it was a lighter base & much stronger post car for dropping in a 440 Magnum or HEMI Wedge V8. As the rarer production 2 door base model, few of these 2 door examples remain. This is one of the finest examples of the remaining 2 door post sedan cars.
CAR HISTORY: This was a one-owner car for the last 40 years, from late 70’s until 2016. It has been lovingly cared for, always garaged and fully rebuilt. Car comes with full documented history, and full stack of receipts dating back to the 1970’s
BODY: In the late 90’s the owner put the car in the garage and started over a 5 year project of love. Trims were stripped, all body work was done removing any flaws or dents, bumpers were re-chromed, many trims, headlight bezels, grill and more were upgraded to NOS pieces, new glass as needed and then car received a full, high quality professional 2-stage repaint: full paint of all jambs, under trunk & hood panels, body with several layers of paint & top clear coats. Interior was redone with new carpets, vintage black leather bucket seats added, rear seat redone & new side panels. An expensive AM/FM cassette stereo system was added with a surround 4 speaker system, including built in rear deck speakers….which still sounds great. New whitewall tires and classic 1957 Plymouth “cone” wheel covers also added to car.
MECHANICAL: After paint and body work, owner decided to redo all mechanical with the car. All new heavy duty leaf springs & joints for the car, new shocks & suspension parts. New upgraded drivetrain: a 1975 225 Slant-6 engine, stock rated at 170HP, fully rebuilt and put in along with a new manual 3 speed transmission & power steering. New radiator, hoses & electronic ignition also added. Car starts right up, runs smooth, does not burn or leak any oil. Tons of power and a smooth ride, even at 70mph! Car has been driver summer months for weekend cruises and car shows, with just over 25,000 miles added since full rebuild. Car has overall only 90,000 original and low documented miles since new.
RECENT WORK & Notes: Car comes with all records and boxes of extra parts, such as trim pieces, headlight trims, extra glass, new windlace, etc. I found a few past photos from sunny days, otherwise I had to take car out of the garage where it sits with my 56 Belvedere … pull it out into a typical light rainy day to get a few more shots. I took some in my garage too to show how exceptionally straight and shiny this car really is, with high quality & flawless classic turquoise paint. Owner had thoughts of dropping in a vintage Hemi, but decided to keep the car a reliable cruiser, easy to drive with lots of torque & power….with great MPG on the road!
This car is licensed year round as not just a collector car, but also tabbed as a daily driver. This is one of those rare survivors that can be driven on weekends, or as a daily driver, if desired ….as it is one of the most dependable cars produced with the slant-6 rated as one of the top 10 engines ever made.
This rare restored survivor has won some awards at local shows and is a real head turner with a “thumbs-up” and “cool car” wherever you go! It is a great investment of a rare survivor, offered at low reserve & price to actual value for condition... priced way below owner’s cost of rebuilds & investment to redo this very cool & classic 1965 Plymouth Fury !
