1964 Savoy 2 door sedan…..Getting harder and harder to find these days. The “Plain Jane” Savoy sedan without all of the trim / etc. of the fancier models, and powered by a Max Wedge was a terror of the streets / dragstrips way back when and today are very sought after cars. Most of them you will find for sale are mega-expensive “real” Max Wedge cars or have been fitted with a HEMI that pushes the price up to where Joe average can’t afford it anymore. Not so with this car……It is powered by a 440 with a factory Cross-Ram intake / Comp Cams .525/294 solid cam / 727 Torqueflite automatic transmission / 8-3/4 rear end with 2.91 gears andPosi-trac for street or highway driving. The car is all steel and while not perfect is a decent car with a great drag car/street brawler look to it.The interior is mostly factory with some cool custom touches. The sub-frames have been tied to stiffen up the chassis, but there is no rollcage, and it has a full backseat. The car currently uses a B&M shifter, but the factory pushbutton shifter setup is still there, and the car comes with the cable setup that the pushbutton setup uses. The motor is a pump gas friendly 446 (440 + .030”) with TRW forged 10.5:1 pistons. This motor is well setup for street use with dual 650CFM Edelbrock Thunder series carbs (easily adjustable secondaries) on top of what I’m pretty sure is an early Mopar factory aluminum Cross-Ram intake / a Comp Cams 0.525/294 solid cam works the valves and exhaust is handled by a set of long tube headers feeding dual Flowmaster mufflers through a 2-1/2” exhaust system.I also have a set of sequential S/N Carter AFB carbs off a 1962 Mopar inline dual quad setup that I can put with the car if you want something a bit more authentic looking, but they will need to be rebuilt before use.The body on the car is pretty much stock “Mopar Steel”, except for the addition of a functional MaxWedge scoop, and mini-tubs to accommodate the 29”X12.5”X15” Mickey Thompson tires out back. The factory wheel tubs were stretched versus using aftermarket tubs, so looking in the trunk everything looks “factory”.Looking under the car at the size of the rear tires, it becomes pretty obvious what has been done. The car also retains its factory VIN tag / Glass front and rear windows, as well as the factory roll-up side windows and dash. The car has factory steel wheels with dog dish hubcaps on all four corners, but the rear wheels were custom widened to hold the 12.5” tires. The sub-frames are tied together to keep the car from twisting if you do decide to add more horsepower later on……Can you say HEMI SAVOY!!!!
This car is ready to roll for cruising around town right now, or if you want to add more steam you could also race the car.It has a clean / clear Illinois title in my name, and is ready to be driven and enjoyed right now.All of the lights / signals work also.
The underside is solid, and the car has had replacement rear floorpans installed in the past. The paint is amateur quality, but it still looks good……the body is decent save for the right rear wheelwell has some damage behind the tire (see pics), where a tire came apart and did some damage. If you are all about the cosmetics, the interior is already done and in great shape, and the body is good enough where you could re-paint the car and still be OK money wise…..especially if you do the work yourself or have a buddy that can do it at a reasonable rate.
You don’t see a lot of ’64 Savoys for sale, and the ones that do come to market are a lot of times 100% show cars or factory race cars that are priced from $30-$100K+++…..Here’s your chance to get that great Mopar look and sound for a lot less money. This car is an appreciating classic, so your money is safe. The great part is while this car makes you money, you can also have some fun with it!!!
There are a lot of little things you could also do to change up the look a bit and really make this car stand out like Orange factory valve covers with STAGE III MaxWedge stickers / factory style air cleaners / Torque Thrust wheels up front with the painted “steelies” out back / etc / etc…………There’s still plenty of room to make the car “yours” without spending much money in the process….And at my price you are going to have a tough time finding a better deal!!!
It would go against all that is good and right in this world……But you could also sell the Cross-ram setup, and you would have even less money in the car.
The transmission in this car is basically a stock 727 Torqueflite….That along with the highway friendly gears and a performance torque convertor is great for cruising around, but not ideal for performance driving. If you want to do some racing with this car, you are going to want to swap out the 727 that is in it for the included race style transmission. This 727 has been rebuilt and modified with a Cheetah valve body (full manual or just put it in D and go) / deep aluminum pan / etc., so that it gives harder / quicker shifts for performance type use.The performance style transmission is included at no extra charge and is shown in one of the pictures.
CHECK OUT THE PICTURES / ASK QUESTIONS, AND THEN BID AWAY.THIS IS A FAIRLY RARE CAR THAT HAS THE LOOK AND BONES OF A 30K+ CAR FOR ALOT LESSMONEY.
