Car description |
---|
This is a Packard 120B, convertible, with dual side mounts, a rumble seat and an ox blood red leather interior. The blackcanvas top is accented withredpiping, and the top bows are chrome. It is equipped with Tripp lights, goddess of speed hood ornament, a straight eight engine, country and city horns, stainless exhaust, and just about every option that was available at the time. Dual side mounts are somewhat unusual on thisvehicle because they made engine access a little more difficult. This car was the 1936 Indy pace car.The side mounts are in cover format. The 12O moniker speaksof thewheel base, which is 120 inches. These pictures do not do this car justice. I was hoping to take them in sunlight and it wasn't possible. This is a deco car that when presented with the top down looks like it's as long as tomorrow. It garners attention, and will embarrass modest drivers with the honking and thumbs up, attention. I had this car for several years and hadn't show it,but just enjoyed its looks. My wifelearnedof a local show for an ALS charity that was notorious for attracting 200-300 cars. She was determined to put thePackard's top down and drive it to that show. She's a tiny woman, I call her "The Peanut" and she was asightpiloting that large, deco car. When all the dust had settled, after spending a day sitting beside the Packard in her sun hat, she came away with a trophy that was almost as tall as "The Peanut". She had won, "Best of Show". It wasn't long after that when the local paper did an article on "the Peanut" and "the Packard". In 2017 Peanut's Packard was the poster car for the SAC aerospace museum's display of 15O cars and antique aircraft.
This is a sweet old car, it's a pleasure to clean and keep because it's so attractive. No rust, dents, no disappointments. Please study the photos they'll tell more than any number of words. The underside of this vehicle is almost as nice as the top. She has an Owner's Manual, Shop Manual and Technical Data Manual. She also has a 6 volt trickle charger. The interior on this car, doors, seat, kick panels and rear window shelf are all ox blood leather. Naturally, the rumble seat is leatherette. The rumble is also fitted with a chrome foot rail. She has a custom black cover with silver, iridescent piping. All funds will have to be in hand before she leaves.
