Car description

1942 Packard Super 8 One-Sixty 7-Passenger Touring Sedan

California car since new, and cared for by the same former owners since 1967! Very solid with impeccable chassis & body fitment throughout! Sold new from Earl C. Anthony Packard based in Los Angeles on September 26, 1941! Recent servicing and freshening of mechanicals! A hard to find, final Pre-war Super 8 Packard Sedan representing one of only 2,580 produced!

Leading up to the Japanese invasion of 1941, little time was wasn’t by the United States as we prepared to enter World War II. Auto Makers across the country turned all attention to military supplies so vehicle production came to a halt early in 1942. What vehicles that were built at the tail end of 1941 were limited, and at Packard, some 27,000 vehicles of all model series left for showrooms. The Senior Packards were few, with the Super Eight One-Sixty finishing with only 2,580 units. Today, they represent the best Packard had to offer for Pre-War collectors, and are very difficult to find in the condition we have presented here.

We are very proud to offer this 1942 Packard Super Eight One-Sixty Touring Sedan (Model 2005) finished in classic Black over Tan Broadcloth interior. This amazingly well cared for 7-passenger sedan hails from California were is sold new from Earl C. Anthony Packard Motor Car Company on September 26th, 1941. Having spent much of its early life in Burbank in the care of Irv Blonder, it would sell to Frank Schiro of Schiro Motor Sales on November 1st, 1967 and never trade hands again until arriving at our Museum in March 2018! The original Vehicle Number is 1574-2013, although it has been titled and registered its entire life off its original, early engine #E500080. Features came heavily equipped for the premium 148” wheelbase One-Sixty series, and ours processes the optional side mounted spares with hard covers. Additionally, you will find the Packard Deluxe Heater, outside mirrors, Packard pushbutton radio with cowl antenna, triple horns, glove box dash clock, front courtesy lights, rear dome light, all Safety-Plate window glass, unique rear tilt-out quarter vent windows, and rear folding jump seats to accommodate additional passengers. Because of the design of making a complete bench, the second row of seats was often advertised by dealers for 3 persons making it an effective 8-passenger sedan, but all Packard literature stuck to listing 7 passenger accommodations.

The odometer states 30,424 miles, but we will not be advertising this as an actual mile example due to insufficient documentation. We do however, have every single California registration record from 1970-2016, its original California black plate, a Schiro Motor Sales plate frame, and original issue Packard body tags stamped by Earl C Antony’s delivery team! The original engine remains in very healthy running capacity today with working gauges and functional overdrive transmission. It appears this example was originally equipped with the Electromatic Clutch, but has since been disconnected. The first year issue Carter Carburetor remains with the car as well. It shows as a well-kept, older restoration today with few real criticisms. The chrome remains very bright and shiny, and the body itself is simply remarkably tight! The paint holds high gloss with some touch ups here and there. The interior is very presentable in all respects with sharp wood graining on the dash, window surrounds, and even the parking brake handle. We invite interested parties to reach out with additional questions or to present an offer for this rare, California time capsule!
