Car description

Selling my 1954 Packard Henney Junior Ambulance, the car is partially finished and I've done the hard work of finding all the obscure and impossible to find parts. As great as this car is, I haven't had the time to work on it over the past few years and it is time for it to go to someone who will finish and enjoy it as much as I have. The car is #96 of 120 built in 1954, and one of only 500 built between '53 and '54. This car is as unique as they come, a real head turner at car shows and on the road, you'll never run across another one.
FEATURES:
  • Coachbuilt 2 door professional ambulance/hearse body
  • Inline 8 engine, 3 speed trans
  • 4 wheel drum brakes, 'packard commercial' brakes in the rear
  • 7/10 paint job, PPG concepts single stage, painted in '09
  • custom pin striping (if you dont like it thinner will take it off without hurting the color)
  • Hand made wiring harness, soldered, heat shrunk connections, extra grounds
THE GOOD
  • Car Runs, drives, stops and steers
  • Numbers matching 288 CID inline 8 engine
  • Rebuilt carter 2bbl carburetor
  • Rebuilt 3 speed Packard transmission (less than 1200 miles on it)
  • New Clutch (less than 800 miles on it)
  • Rebuilt starter, generator, and distributor (less than 1200 miles)
  • New water pump & thermostat (less than 1200 miles)
  • Garage kept since the day I bought it, never left outside
  • All glass good (new windshield and flat glass, good original rear and rear quarter glasses)
  • All hard trim either installed or will be included
  • Re-chromed front bumper and hood ornament
  • Tires from new from Coker tire in 2009, less than 1200 miles on them, no dry rot, cracks or issues, never left in the sun.
THE BAD
  • Cylinder 8 has a sticky exhaust valve, car runs fine, occasional misfire at idle
  • Big, loud exhaust put on by previous owner, was well done so I've just left it
  • Paint and body about a 7/10, great driver, not a concourse paint job
  • No weatherstripping installed, have a lot of it, what I do have will be included with the car
  • Mechanical fuel pump was rebuilt, quit after 100 miles, so an electric pump has been installed on the inner fender, as can be seen in the picture
  • Interior unfinished, seat has been stripped and cleaned, but not upholstered, headliner is 80% done, new carpet in the car, garnish mouldings painted white but not installed
  • No exterior mirrors, interior mirror needs to be redone
  • The car was crashed early in it's life (my records say before 1961), left front fender, inner fender, and door, some evidence underneath remains, but not on the outside. No frame damage or heavy rust
  • The grille is pitted and cracked in one area, and is missing the packard crest emblem
  • Rear bumper is not finished
  • Not necessarily bad, but the underside of the car, the chassis/suspension, are pretty much original, the fuel tank has been cleaned out, but the body to my knowledge has never been off so the underside shows it's age. However, no rust areas to speak of, the small amount of rust on the body has been dealt with (with patched with metal, not filler).
THE UNFINISHED
  • Interior (I have many of the original panels which will be included as templates for new panels)
  • Exterior trim (windshield moulding, wipers, mirrors, grille emblem)
  • Fuel system (a new mechanical pump would be ideal)
  • The car could really use an overdrive unit, top speed in it's current state is 55. I drove the car to a Packard club event in 2014 (about 600 miles round trip) and it did fine, no overheating or issues, just slow
  • Rear bumper is in pieces, the commercial body is 4 inches wider than a normal packard and a custom rear bumper will have to be made, the process has been started but finished.
  • Car is wired for a roof mounted light/siren unit, but one will NOT come with the car
I have a fair bit of history on this car, receipts for various aspects of the car over the years, it was sold new to the US Airforce and was used at an installation in Colorado called Fort Logan, from there it was sold to a fire department in a small town on the western slopes of Colorado called Rifle, used and owned by them until some time in the 2000s when it had fallen into disrepair, and was sold to the person I purchased it from in southern Rhode Island. The car is now located in Colleyville, Texas. Buyer is responsible for pickup of the vehicle, and this car will NOT fit on u-haul car trailers or commercial car haulers, because of it's length, width, and height. Vehicle does not have a warranty expressed or implied. Car has a clean Texas title.
