Car description |
---|
For your consideration is a 1939 Packard Model 1701 One Twenty Convertible Sedan. This well preserved example is elegantly finished in black with a contrasting tan convertible top over a deep red leather interior.
The exterior body panels are straight, rust free and original. The bodylines are complemented by chrome work that is still showing very well with virtually no pitting or tarnish, which is unusual for a car of this vintage. Mechanically the car starts right up even after sitting for a while. The original Packard straight 8 engine, with less than 51,000 miles, runs very well and the column mounted “Handishift” transmission advances smoothly through the gears. At some point during its life, the original front drum brakes were upgraded to disk brakes to improve the stopping capability of this substantial vehicle. In the event the new owner wanted to take it back to stock, the original drum brakes will be included in the sale of the car.
The interior is a time capsule and a superb example of yesteryear’s luxury. The leather seating areas are quite comfortable and show little to no wear. The interior woodwork and trim are in very good condition, with slight signs of wear on the front kick panels and the passenger-strap mounted to the rear of the front seat. The original push button radio is still installed and appears to be in working order, though two of the button covers have gone missing over time. The convertible top is in proper working order with only slight fading and is complemented by a matching cloth boot.
As with any car of this age, there are some indications of weardamage that can been seen in the last pictures. Most notable is a paint touch-up on the rear of the passenger side headlight and a mark on the passenger side front fender. Additionally, there ismoderate delamination on the corners of the windshield and the rubber covering for the running boards could be replaced at some point in the future.
