This is a very rare piece of Maserati racing heritage. It is simply known as a 1992 Maserati Barchetta Race Car. Only 17 of these were built for a '92/'93 single-make race series (GranTrofeo Championship) in Italy with the purpose of bolstering Maserati's credibility after it's withdraw from the North American market due to poor reliability and declining company profitability. This particular car is even more unique because it was the only one kept and campaigned by the factory as the other 15 or 16 were sold off to privateer teams to campaign. This car is also the most successful in terms of points accumulated in the Gran Trofeo Series.
