Up for bids today is a 1966 White Compact Cab Over. COE Tractor Semi Truck. Model 1500. Manufactured by the White Motor Company in 1966. this is the smallest Semi Truck on the market with a very unusual short wheelbase which make for a great looking Cab Over. COE. It was formerly owned by a Semi Truck Collector. now 80 years old who is no longer able to continue the restoration on this truck. He began with a very solid and complete cab and chassis. The engine is the original Inline 6 cylinder gas engine with a new 4 barrel carburetor. It starts up and runs great but only when an electric fuel pump is used because the truck needs a new fuel pump and won’t run otherwise. To make it clear. this truck is not road ready nor will it run on it’s own until it has a new fuel pump installed. It has a new clutch slave cylinder and other miscellaneous items have been addressed. The truck does have air brakes and the system is complete but needs to be gone through before taking on the road. The cab is 90% rust free except for a small hole by the rain gutter on each side. The floors. doors. structural areas. all sheet metal. cab corners. etc are perfect. The original color of the truck is a dark green and the interior still sports the original paint. which is in very nice original. gently aged condition. The exterior was expertly painted with a brush. perhaps a better job than Picasso could and looks pretty good (from a distance). This trunk is a very popular model to turn into a Street Rod Hauler or Classic Car Hauler. Many of these White’s COE’s. Cab Over’s are removed from the frames and used on a late model truck chassis as a street rod. The former owner mentioned that this trunk may have been used by The Publix Supermarkets in Florida to haul groceries but no documentation is available to prove this claim. IMPORTANT NOTE: This truck is sold with a Bill of Sale only. no title although one is very easy to obtain and I will guarantee that you will get one in a timely manner. I am experienced with obtaining titles for antique and classic cars and I can help at no charge but the buyer pays the associated fees and costs directly to the title agency. Thanks for your interest and good luck bidding! A brief history of the White Motor Company is as follows: Truck Manufacturing: The White Motor Company was an American automobile and truck manufacturer from 1900 until 1980. The company also produced bicycles. roller skates. automatic lathes. and sewing machines. Before World War II. the company was based in Cleveland. Ohio. White Motor Company ended car production after WWI and began producing trucks. The company soon sold 10 percent of all trucks made in the US. Although White produced all sizes of trucks from light delivery to semi. the decision was made after WWII to produce only large trucks. White acquired several truck companies during this time: Sterling. Autocar. Diamond T. and REO. White also agreed to sell Consolidated Freightways trucks through its own dealers. [5] White produced trucks under the Autocar nameplate following its acquisition. Diamond T and REO Motor Car Company became the Diamond REO division. which was discontinued in the 1970s. A White semi performed a role in the 1949 James Cagney film. "White Heat". This era was probably the peak of White Motor market penetration. with the substantial gasoline engined tractors moving a large part of the tractor trailer fleet. White designed and (with other companies) produced the M3 Scout Car. the standard United States Army reconnaissance vehicle at the start of World War II. White also built the later M2 and M3 half-tracks. In 1967. White started the Western Star division to sell trucks on the west coast. White buses: In the 1930s. White produced 500 of their small Model 706 buses specifically designed to carry passengers through the major National Parks of the western US. The distinctive vehicles. with roll-back canvas convertible tops. were the product of noted industrial designer Alexis de Sakhnoffsky. and originally operated in seven National Parks. Today. Glacier National Park operates 33 of their original 35 buses. where they are referred to as "Red Jammers". and 8 (of an original 98) have been restored for renewed service in Yellowstone National Park. Glacier National Park's 33 buses were refurbished by Ford Motor Company and TransGlobal in 2000-2002. while Yellowstone National Park's eight buses were refurbished by TransGlobal in 2007. Glacier has kept one bus in original condition. Yellowstone has five White buses in original condition. two model 706s and three older units as well. In addition. Gettysburg National Battlefield operates two of Yellowstone's original buses. Collector Car Market: White Cab Over COE trucks are highly collectible today. Many of them have extreme art deco styling and are restored to original specs. Others and converted into Cab Over Street Rods or used as Street Rod Haulers.
