1973 Opel 1900 Sports Wagon Description

1973 Opel 1900 Sports Wagon

Rarely-seen 1973 Opel Sports Wagon (VIN code L15) Between 1971 and 1975 they were sold through Buick dealers in the United States Unrestored, two-owner car 1.9L Opel CIH four-cylinder engine (VIN code N) Three-speed automatic transmission Sunset Copper exterior with copper interior Air-conditioning Sold on California Actual Mileage Title

In the early to mid-1970s, General Motors deployed something new to the United States, small cars from its European arm, Opel, that were sold in Buick dealerships. MotoeXotica Classic Cars is pleased to present this seldom seen 1973 Opel 1900 Sports Wagon. It is an unrestored, two-owner car that was made in Antwerp, Belgium. This out standing example is beeing sold on a California Actual Mileage Title.

Finished in Sunset Copper, the wagon’s paint and trim are in overall great condition, with a few minor blemishes visible upon close inspection. The wagon’s windows, including the flip-open side panes, are clear and intact while the lights are haze-free and intact. This wagon’s bodywork is straight and solid, the chrome-bladed bumpers fit tightly to the body and look fantastic.

Under the hood is Opel’s 1.9L four-cylinder engine, which is mated to a three-speed automatic transmission. This wagon rolls on factory rally wheels surrounded by radials, size 175/70R13 at all four corners. Driver convenience features include air-conditioning, how ever belt is off compressor .

Inside, the car’s copper interior is in overall very good order. The vinyl front buckets and rear bench seats look great, as does the contrasting black carpet. The white headliner is in satisfactory order, as is the factory two-spoke steering wheel, horn is inop. The black instrument panel and copper-colored inner door liners are also in decent condition. The center console looks great while the shifter is in good order. In back, the cargo area behind the rear seat is in very good order. Completing the interior is a factory AM radio.

From 1971–75, the 1.9-liter Opel Ascona A was exported to the United States as the “Opel 1900” sold through Buick-Opel dealerships. All three body styles were offered at first, but the four-door sedan was dropped after 1973.

The Ascona was developed as a replacement to the Kadett but late in the car’s development Opel chose to instead develop a new, smaller Kadett and instead positioned the Ascona as a competitor to the successful

Ford mid-sized Taunus range. The Opel Ascona A stayed in production until 1975. By that time, almost 692,000 vehicles of the first series had been produced.

The range featured gas engines from 1.2 to 1.9L. The 1.2L had an overhead valve head, while the 1.6L and 1.9L featured the Opel Cam-in-head engine (CIH). The CIH was a compromise effort, with the camshaft mounted next to the valves rather than above them. All used a single barrel carburetor.

Competition to this Opel wagon in 1973 included Chevrolet’s Vega, Datsun’s B210, Dodge’s Colt, Ford’s Pinto, Honda’s Civic, Mazda’s Savanna/808, Mercury’s Bobcat, Pontiac’s Astre and Toyota’s Corolla.

If you are looking for a cute runabout to add to your collection, you collect German vehicles or if you want something economical to use as a second or third car, visit MotoeXotica Classic Cars today and take a peek at this Opel. If you take it to a local cruise night or a car show, odds are it will be one of a few or the only one there.
