Car description |

This spectacular 1937 Chrysler Imperial C-17 Airflow Coupe is just one of the few remaining original 8 Cylinder Airflow Coupes left on earth. This was basically the big brother to the more common and much smaller 6 cylinder Airflow Coupes. Yet it still has just two doors and was Chrysler's top of the line.[Historical Note: Chrysler did drop the Imperial name for the Airflow line in '37]. Other than the newly painted massive air cleaner, new spark plugs and NOS voltage regulator; this engine bay has never been touched.
This car is the smoothest running, easiest starting, fastest prewar car I have ever owned. And I've owned 125 prewar cars. The motor is so quiet, you can't hear it running. The Factory Overdrive allows speeds easily exceeding 85 mph. And with the Overdrive lever pushed in, once the car reaches 40 mph, just let your foot off the gas for 1.5 seconds and it automatically drops into Overdrive. The power is amazing!
This car is very original. The headliner, carpet and possibly even the seats are factory original. You would never know it from the photos, but this car was painted in the 1950's. The paint is near flawless, with absolutely no rust anywhere. The floor boards in the car as well as the trunk as also rust free. All of the glass is factory and in beautiful unscratched or blemished condition. The undercarriage is clean as a whistle, yet it has never been detailed. The white wall tires are 1 month old. All of the chrome and stainless is brand new and concours quality. The running boards are original as well and in beautiful condition. It has a split windshield, with both sides cranking out independently for maximum air flow. The car has a factory heater and yes it works just fine. All of the gauges work, even the gas gauge. Now there's a first! The lines of this motorcar are as Art Deco as it gets. This just may be the largest two door coupe ever made. It literally floats down the road but at great speed of course.
