This car was assembled in Fremont California, and lived it's entire life in Southern California. It's never been in an accident, and it's never had any rust. It was a show car for most of it's life. The previous owner took it to many car shows from the late 80s to the late 90s, and he always stored it in his garage in a Southern California desert environment. I've owned this car for 8 years now, and I decided to give it a complete frame-off restoration to up it's game as a show car and added the W-30 package. This car was restored right, with tremendous attention to detail, no corners were cut and I had a spare no expense theme. The restoration took just over 5 years, and it was completed in 2018. The car has about 150 miles on it since being restored.
The car came back from media blasting with the trunk, floorpans, firewall without even a pinhole, revealing the perfect original sheetmetal. Not a single rust issue, it retains all original sheetmetal, including the entire trunk & lid, entire floorpan, firewall, rear quarters, etc without any patch work needed.
The entire frame, all suspension parts, upper and lower, A-arms and control arms, sway bars, and all bumper brackets were sandblasted, then powder coated semi-gloss black. All new body bushings, suspension bushings, ball joints, all steering components, brake system, fuel system, weatherstripping, all rubber on the car was replaced.
The entire undercarriage, firewall, dash, and engine brackets were sprayed with a direct to metal, semi-gloss black epoxy paint, using a real spray gun, no spray cans were used on this car. On the exterior of the car, all the original stainless trim was sent out for polishing with a mirror finish, and the bumpers were triple chrome plated. The wheels are also black powder coated.
The car was already very straight, with no real dents, but there is still over a hundred hours in straightening the body panels and improving the fit and finish well past the original standards too a show car finish. The stripes on the car are painted on (not decals) and the layout took 20+ hours to get them right. Most of the cars I've seen with these stripes are done incorrectly since most of the stencil kits do not fit properly. These stripes were measured out based on the original factory specification to ensure a perfect layout. All the stripes on the car are buried underneath the clear coat, so you can't feel any edges on the stripes if you touch the car. The car was painted in pieces so every last inch of the car has new fresh paint/clear coat on it, then painstakingly reassembled. The final clear coat was wet sanded all the way down to 3000 grit for perfect mirror finish.
The original 455ci engine, numbers matching was completely rebuilt and all stock outside of the small Edelbrock performer camshaft. The original Turbo 400, numbers matching was also rebuilt completely stock, and it has 3.08 rearend gears. The Engine compartment was redone stock, the AC system is also completely redone, new hoses, compressor, fan, etc. It's charged with R12 and it works great, nice and cold. New 4 row copper radiator, heavy duty fan clutch. Original exhaust manifolds, WZ code with upgraded a Pipes brand, 2 1/2" complete stainless steel exhaust system including stainless trumpets properly aligned with the rear bumper.
The dash is in perfect condition, no warping, no cracks or scuffs, and everything is aligned perfectly. The car has original working rally pack gauges with tick-tock-tach (not aftermarket) All the window tracks, door latches, seat tracks, and steering column were completely taken apart, cleaned, greased, and reassembled and in perfect working order. The center console is in great original condition, with no cracks, scrapes, or scuffs. The seats, door panels, carpet, and headliner have all been redone using top of the line products.
