Styled by Swiss Carrosserie Graber and boasting coachwork manufactured by Rolls-Royce's in house coachbuilder 'Park Ward'. the Alvis TD 21 made its debut in 1958. The TD 21 initially retained the torquey 3-litre. overhead-valve six that came with 104 bhp . though this was increased early in 1959 to 120 bhp. courtesy of a new cylinder head and it was then capable of 100mph. Inside there were improvements to the accommodation with increased headroom and legroom when compared to the preceding TC108G. especially in the rear. Lockheed servo-assisted disc brakes were now an option. becoming standard in 1960. The TD 21 is a real “driver’s car”. The English magazine Autocar praised the TD 21 as “one of the most enchanting owner-driver cars imaginable”. Of the 784 TD21’s built only 192 were drophead coupes and even a smaller number were LHD. This TD 21 was sold new by the dealer. Pimleys in Victoria. British Columbia. Canada to Mr. Donald Smith a noted stamp collector and appraiser in Victoria in August 1960. He kept the car until 1994 when it was purchased by Mr. Peter Dobbs. a restoration specialist on Vancouver Island. Mr. Dobbs repainted the car Midnight Metallic Blue. reupholstered in blue gray leather. had a new top fitted and rechromed it as necessary. The third owner. also of British Columbia. completed two 1000 mile classic car tours in the past two years. Comes with an extensive service and history file.
