Build by Vintage Replicar founder Mark Gomez. Although it was originally developed for Volkswagen. the art-deco styled 356/1 prototype was conceived and built by Ferry Porsche and would go on to become the very first automobile to carry the Porsche name. The original 356/1 is proudly displayed at the Porsche HQ in Stuttgart. Germany. and the 356/1 seen here is a high-quality re-creation that was the first example built by Vintage Replicar founder Mark Gomez. Vintage Replicar re-creations are among the highest-quality re-creations on the market. and this example has been featured in Excellence magazine in April 2011. It has had just one previous owner since being built in 2010. and has been driven just 3. 41 miles. The development and build of this 356/1 re-creation was a multi-year affair that would help secure Vintage Replicar as one of the finest producers of re-creations. The body is constructed of hand-finished fiberglass with correct detailing. trim. headlamp bezzling. bumper guards and a proper two-piece windscreen. just like it appears on the original 356/1. As it was constructed in 1948. the original 356/1 interior was a very spartan affair. with not much more than seats and a steering wheel. This re-creation holds true with two red leather bucket seats. oatmeal & grey carpeting and an ivory banjo-style steering wheel. The door panels and gear shifter are also trimmed in red leather. and the dash features VDO-style instrumentation for an authentic look. Correct wheels wear polished hub caps with front disc brakes behind to provide stopping power. Unlike the production 356 coupes and speedsters that were rear-engined. the 356/1 was originally built in a mid-engine configuration. with the engine positioned between the seats and the rear axle. This re-creation is powered by an air-cooled 1. 15cc with dual EMPI 40mm carburetors that develops approximately 100hp -- a large improvement of the diminutive 1. 31cc. 40hp four-cylinder in the original. The engine is backed by a four-speed manual transmission. and the car is built on a round-tube chassis. This 356/1 has been well looked-after by its previous owner. and it is fully sorted after a comprehensive servicing at Chris' German Auto (to much fanfare). a local Bellevue area shop that specializes in all things Porsche. Record of this servicing. as well as other service records and guides. are included in an organized binder. Because there is only one original 356/1. this high-quality re-creation commands massive attention wherever it goes. as most have no idea such a car even exists. It is a crowd favorite at vintage Porsche events. local car shows. and just driving down the road. If you're considering a vintage Porsche re-creation. you'd be remiss to miss out on the opportunity to add this example to your collection.
