Take the heart and soul of a 1980s Ford Mustang, wrap it in replica 1930s bodywork and details and you have a rolling conversation piece to take to car shows or cruise nights. MotoeXotica Classic Cars is pleased to offer this neo-classic 1983 Zimmer Golden Spirit, made in March 1983 and is number 477 of 1,500 examples manufactured between 1978 and 1988 in Pompano Beach, Florida. This one has only 70xx miles since new as stated by the current owner.
The car’s handsome black exterior, tan accents and gold pinstripes are in overall very good condition, with only minor blemishes visible upon close inspection. The window glass is clear and intact, as are the opera windows. The car’s lights, including the fog, cowl, operas and LED tails, are in very good order. The car rolls on 235/75R15 wide whitewall tires, wrapped around wire wheels with Zimmer center caps. This car’s body panels are straight and solid, including the tan, half-vinyl roof. The car’s bumpers are in very good order, as are the teakwood running boards and trunk, which is also lined with the same style of carpet found in the cabin. Under the vee-shaped hood is a tidy engine bay. Extra exterior features include hinged, etched glass wind deflectors mounted to the A-pillars. Driver convenience features include air-conditioning, power steering, power brakes, cruise control and intermittent windshield wipers. Note that the right window goes up slowly but it does work.
Inside, the tan Recaro leather front bucket seats are in very good condition. The thick, matching tan pile carpet is in similar very good order while the matching tan headliner is in good order. The instrument panel, with full instrumentation and is in very good condition and is pure Ford, found in that era’s Fox-body vehicles, complete with faux wood accents. There is a gold-plated and wooden Nardi three-spoke steering wheel that is great shape, as are the inner door panels, which have the same style carpeting along the lower sections. Attached to the inside of the B-pillars are cut crystal vases filled with artificial flowers. The mirror glass is in good order; the center console looks good, as does the console shifter. At the head of the console is a fiber-optic warning light display for when exterior lights have burned out or when the windshield washer fluid or fuel levels are low. Rounding out the interior is a pop-up Clarion VZ401 multimedia sound system, including AM/FM stereo with CD with remote control. Car has power locks, power windows, power seats and tilt steering column.
The idea for this automobile was initially drawn on a napkin at a private dinner between Paul Zimmer and Robert Zimmer, Paul Zimmer's son. Paul Zimmer drew what was to become the Golden Spirit Motorcar on a napkin, handed it to Bob Zimmer and told him that not only were they going to build a neo-classic automobile, but that Bob would be responsible for the product development, initial manufacturing set-up, staffing for all functions of the operation and ongoing supervision of Zimmer Motorcars Corporation. The Zimmer Golden Spirit was the flagship of the Zimmer Motorcars Corporation with more than 1,500 being produced during its production run. The exterior design is pure classic grandeur right out of the Great Gatsby era, handmade to the highest quality possible.
Starting in 1979, Ford offered the Fox-body Mustang as the new basis for Zimmers. The frames were stretched for a longer wheelbase and the bodywork modified. The Mustang VIN was retained as it met all the required US safety features at the time.
The driving experience is what makes these cars so great. You have all the modern conveniences and reliability without compromising the classic look. Competition to this car in 1983 included the Excalibur Series IV Phaeton.
This car is currently located at our facility in St. Louis, Missouri. Current mileage on the odometer shows 7,028 miles and are the original to the car as stated by the current second owner of the vehicle It is sold as is, where is, on a clean and clear, mileage exempt title. GET OUT AND DRIVE!!!
