This is an outstanding opportunity to own the final year of the full size Delta 88 Royale Convertible! The Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale seen here is a very late production unit built in the final days of the 1975 model year! A stand out classic Oldsmobile finished in a gorgeous color combination and fitted with great options to include 350ci V8, air conditioning, wire wheel covers, convenience group, heavy duty cooling group, power steering and brakes, along with, Soft Ray tinted glass! This is truly an awesome road car!
The executives at General Motors were seeing a decline in the necessity of a convertible model in nearly every segment of the automobile market by the early 1970's. Buyers just weren't lining up like they had in the past, and production totals had been dwindling year after year. The writing was on the wall from Chevrolet to Oldsmobile to eliminate further production of a convertible offering from 1975 onward, and Cadillac by 1976. This news in the automotive world allowed the individual marketing departments of each manufacture to pump the excitement in their advertising with the opportunity to own one of the last convertibles to ever leave General Motors assembly lines. And it worked! Buyers bought into the hype to have one to drive, and one to consider as a future collectible! Many found garages with caring ownership from day one, and this example offered here is a beautiful example of one such car!
Presented here is one of the very last 1975 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Convertibles to be produced! It was factory ordered in beautiful Spectre Blue over White interior with matching White convertible top! Options and features include 350ci V8-4bbl engine, Turbo-Hydramatic 400 3-speed column shifted automatic transmission, Four Seasons air conditioning, variable-ratio power steering, deluxe steering wheel with tilt, ventilated power front disc brakes, split bench front seat with armrest, remote outside mirror, wire wheel covers, Convenience Group to include under hood lamp, trunk compartment lamp, & passenger vanity mirror; body side moldings, Heavy Duty Engine Cooling Package, cruise control, all Soft-Ray tinted glass, and more! Historic records indicate the final Delta 88 Royale Convertible was built on July 11th, 1975, with this example finished the final week in June, mere days before production ceased!
This gorgeous example has lived quite a pampered life! It was ordered and delivered through Billion Motors of Sioux Falls, South Dakota selling to an insurance & wealth management company called Regal Partnership on September 5th, 1975 with 146 miles already logged on the odometer. The owner was Jim Schneider, who averaged using his investment only 4,000 miles each year during the short, summer driving season up north. It was never used in inclement weather leaving its body and chassis foundation in outstanding, rust free condition! It would later trade hands to a Stillwater, Minnesota collector with just 33,000 miles on the odometer in 2002. It was already repainted in its factory color using modern base coat/ clear coat processes by this time. He would maintain enthusiastic possession in his collection, which at one time would contain four full size convertibles, adding approximately 5,000 miles to the odometer before selling in November 2011 due to health reasons.
It would make its way to Elizabeth and Randy Roberts of Kenosha, Wisconsin with 38,000 miles on the odometer. As new Oldsmobile Club of America members and the National Meet convening nearby in Springfield, IL that July 2013, they elected to attend and be judged among their peers. Having scored an impressive 931/1000 points under close scrutiny, it was certainly exciting for the new caretakers! With the Olds Nationals returning to their backyard in Brookfield, WI in 2015, they would return with some improvements to score 947/1000 points earning them a 1st Place Award as well as Best in Class honors! This truly makes this Spectre Blue example one of the finest in existence today!
It will come with a host of original documentation including original window sticker, all original owner's manuals & instructional booklets, dealership brochure, past service records, as well as 2013 & 2015 OCA judging sheets! Servicing in November 2013 thru April 2014 included pulling the heads and having them magnafluxed and surfaced by Don's Machine Shop in Kenosha, WI. The valve stem seals were replaced, with everything reassembled with new heads gaskets, valley pan gasket, carburetor gasket, valve cover gaskets, new oil pump, oil pan gasket, new water pump, thermostat, radiator hoses, fan clutch, new cap & rotor, and engine/transmission mounts. Today, the odometer reads only 44,492 miles. It is superbly complete with all tire changing equipment included, convertible boot cover, trunk mat, and indoor storage car cover! Don't miss your change to own such an incredible piece of Oldsmobile history, representing one of only 7,181 Delta 88 Royale Convertibles built for the final year in 1975! Act quickly, and be ready to turn some heads on the open road this next spring!!
