Car description

1967 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme

The "grandfather" to the F-85 and Cutlass was initially seen in an Oldsmobile experimental sports coupe designed in 1954. It rode on a 110 in wheelbase, and had a fastback roofline, with a stock V8 engine. The 1954 Oldsmobile Cutlass Concept took its name from the military Chance-Vought Cutlass, a Navy fighter plane. The aviation theme was prevalent throughout the Cutlass concept. Its platform was to be very similar to the F-85, which would not go into production for several more years.

For consignment an F85 platform 1967 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Turnpike Cruiser (Coded L66) whose advent came from a shift in Oldsmobile's methodology regarding vehicle performance and economy. A September 1967 press release stated that Chief Engineer John Beltz had challenged his staff two years prior to increase fuel economy and usable performance, minimize noise and vibration and reduce exhaust emissions. Accordingly, the resulting 1967 Turnpike Cruising Package was engineered to achieve those goals and thrive at the elevated speeds traveled on the expanding network of modern interstate superhighways without compromising around-town throttle response or comfort. We give you a 400ci 300HP Climactic Combustion Control 2-bbl built on a 442 frame and utilizing a 442 suspension. One of 502 versions only available in the 1967 built.

Exterior
This two door cruiser shows very nicely all bathed in a Red respray changing the original color from Blue. Nice chrome bumpers, stainless trimmings, very straight rust free steel panels all minding their gaps very well. Speaking of trimmings, they reside on the wheel wells, rockers, window surrounds, door handles and badging. A slight "flying buttress" B pillar has a deeper inset rear glass and blends its way into the rear quarter panel. At the back of these panels, are 4 taillights angled in towards the trundled, 2 on the rear panel, and 2 on the rear bumper. Below we see dual exhaust peeking out from the slightly rusted rear bumper. 14 inch factory Magnum 500 wheels are wrapped in redline tires which look new. This setup is on all 4 corners.

Interior
Inside nicely preserved front low back buckets draped in black vinyl with a center console dividing them, also in black with a glovebox and a metal surrounded shift lever. The dash uses its multi tiered and black bottom with brushed aluminum top to house the dual round gauges in front of the original steering wheel. Temp controls and A/C vents are also on here as well as a Jensen aftermarket AM/FM/Cassette Player (the original AM/FM radio is included). A rear bench stretches across the back and is in good condition. Consigner states that the interior is all original with no cuts or worn areas. Black carpet for the floors, and a tight black headliner is above.

Drivetrain
400ci and 300hp equipped with Climatic Controlled Combustion and a 2-barrel carburetor atop, and you have your emissions reduced, gas saving Turnpike optioned car's drivetrain. In addition, a TH400 automatic transmission with a dual pitch converter, along with the 10-bolt, 2.56 posi rear axle are pushing power to the rear wheels. This engine block has been repainted.

Undercarriage
Overall patina has taken over this undercarriage, showing some areas of surface rust, although still structurally sound. Floorpans need a refresher as invasive rust has taken them partially over. The 442 frame remains solid, as does the newer GM 442 front suspension. Power discs for the front and power drums for the rear along with independent coil spring suspension upfront, and 4 link with coil springs on the back. Front and rear HD sway bars have been put on. A clean Flowmaster exhaust snakes its way rearward.

Drive-Ability
A quick starter, good driver and smooth operator. The R12 factory A/C has been disconnected but the windows still crank downward so no need to really fuss with that unless you want it. A straight stopper, and overall good experience.

A rare item in 1 of only 502 Turnpike Cruiser cars built only in 1967, only on the 442 frame, and only with a 2 barrel carburetor and the Climate Controlled Combustion. A posi 2.56 rear, and the dual pitch converter on the TH400 automatic, we are saving gas and maintain decent muscle in this Cutlass Supreme.
