Lovers of Olds performance take notice. Here's the swan song of the Hurst partnership. This 1984 Oldsmobile Cutlass Hurst/Olds with the cool lightning rod shifter, is one of only 3,500 that were built for the final year (and the desirable T-tops take that number down to a tantalizingly low 1,500 examples.) So it's awesome to find a low-mileage example that has been treated with the kind of respect its rarity commands.
This car has averaged barely over 1,000 miles annually, and so you know it has a history of long-term care. And that's because its rarity comes with absolute distinction. The silver and black was exclusive layout just for 1984. The upper portion retain a nice precious metal kind of shine, and the lower black was recently professionally resprayed. And we love how the red stripes highlight some nice curves on the otherwise well-creased design. Plus, the hood scoop and deck lid spoiler practically scream "high performance." It's an overall appearance that attracts as much attention as a Buick Grand National, and yet, you'd pay double or triple to get one of those in this kind of quality condition.
Inside, the Hurst/Olds got bucket seats and a proper center console - something few other Oldsmobiles of the era can claim. The burgundy cloth strikes a nice balance between premium and aggressive, especially when it has been this well preserved. But the real party piece everyone will be looking at is the special three-lever Hurst Lightning rod shifter setup that gives full manual control of the automatic transmission underneath. As a true premium coupe, it came loaded with power driver's seat, power windows, power locks, cruise control, and tilt steering column. All of it looks original and complete right down to the factory AM/FM/cassette stereo. This one comes with the desirable T-tops, and thanks to cold-blowing air conditioning, you can take them out any time of the year.
This Hurst/Olds is correctly powered by a 307 cubic-inch V8. This motor is believed to be original, which is great because these Oldsmobile-specific powerhouses are known to be both rugged and torquey. This one has been under proper care, so not only does it have a clean and fresh look, but also the right maintenance items for a great driving classic. This includes a recent full coolant system flush and test, and there was a full transmission servicing with fluids and gasket. It's this kind of investment why the motor idles nicely and runs strong. You saw the triple-stalk Hurst shifter in the interior, and out on the road, it allows you to get the most out of the V8. And on days when you want to take it easy, the four-speed can shift itself for comfortable overdrive cruising. This one has more great features for both cruising and performance driving such as power steering, front disc brakes, and sway bars front & rear. It's all capped off by those flashy Oldsmobile Super Stock wheels that have a great red trim ring to match the rest of the car, and they are mounted to proper BF Goodrich T/A tires.
The sale comes complete with the owner's manual, service manual, and even storage bags for the T-tops. If you miss the Hurst/Olds era like the rest of us, then an affordable final year car is the perfect addition to your collection. It's going to be tough to find one as nice as this, so hurry up if you want it to be yours. Call today!!!
