It's always nice to come across a solid, well-dressed classic Cutlass. Introduced in the early '60s, they rapidly became sought after muscle cars, combining performance-centric drivetrains with sporty styling and generous interior space to accommodate back seat passengers in comfort. This 1968 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme is a fine example of the model in its vintage heyday. It still features its original 350 V8 under the hood, only 82,851 actual miles, and it looks sharp and drives great. The Provincial White paint this Olds wears provides a very nice look, especially when off-set by the painted black roof. It shows no signs of oxidation and the pearl texture really adds depth and makes this classic come alive when exposed to the sun. It's not perfect, but better than most, and more than worthy to dominate your local cruise-in. From every angle this Cutlass has a road-ready appearance - the front and rear bumpers are straight and unblemished, the array of chrome trim is all intact and presents well, and the glass on all sides of the cabin is nice and clear, with the front and rear windshields surrounded by solid rubber seals. Oldsmobile took its venerable muscle car through a restyling in '68, giving the car a more refined overall appearance with a semi-fastback rear roofline and equipping the centered grille - nearly a trademark for the model at the time - with more aggressive vertical bars. Size-wise, the Cutlass strikes a great balance as it's trim enough to present an agile appearance and yet features a generously sized wheelbase for a smooth ride and plenty of room inside. The code 977 Parchment interior sports its original configuration and while it does show some signs of use, it still offers a nice classic driving environment in its present state. The front buckets could use some new padding but are still fairly comfortable and their frames look to be arrow-straight, making any upgrades you might decide to do that much easier. The door panels are original and in solid shape with the bottom carpet trim likely recently replaced, as was the carpeting below, judging from its fresh appearance. Cutlasses of this era sported well-appointed, stylish dash areas, as the one here ably illustrates with its array of factory knobs and switches that sit underneath the original dash pad. The original gauges are easily readable, all control knobs sit securely in place and an original AM radio is still installed in the center of the dash. The trunk area is every bit as spacious as you'd expect and it's in good order, with a full size spare sitting inside and a fresh expanse of correct matting on its floor. Underneath the hood, the original, numbers matching Rocket 350 V8 is still on hand and it continues to perform well, firing up quickly when called upon and running strong. It's equipped with an OEM 2-barrel carb and teams with what is likely the original 2-speed Super Turbine 300 transmission to make up an authentically vintage yet solidly functioning drivetrain. This classic features both power steering and power brakes, so it navigates easily and comes to dependable, low-effort stops, as it rolls on a set of 14" stock Oldsmobile wheels with fresh centers that are wrapped in brand new Cooper Cobra white-letter radial tires. The undercarriage below looks very solid for any classic, let alone one that's nearly a half century old. This 1969 Oldsmobile Cutlass is loaded with vintage charm and it's a strong, original driver.
