Vehicle Overview Cardiff Classics is pleased to present this RARE 1971 Oldsmobile 442 Convertible! with Factory A/C. This is just 1 of only 1304 Convertible 442's made in '71! It has undergone a comprehensive nut/bolt restoration approx. 2 years ago and has recently been freshened with all current service needs completed.
Despite storm clouds on the muscle car horizon, the 442 returned in 1971 with only minor modifications from the previous year. Engine output was down for 1971 due to a lower compression ratio (8.5:1), which affected all of GM's engines as the result of a corporate policy requiring engines to run on lower-octane regular leaded, low lead, or unleaded gasoline, in preparation for the introduction of the catalytic converter on 1975-model cars.
The 1971 442 was available in a hardtop coupe and convertible body type. Quarter mile performance as reported by Road Test magazine was 15.2 seconds @ 99 mph (159 km/h), and 0-60 in 8.9 seconds, using the TH400 automatic transmission. This Oldsmobile includes a 455ci V8 350 horsepower engine and full dual exhaust system. While flexing its muscles under the hood, the exterior still kept the classic muscle car body style, even including a rear spoiler option. Clearly, Dr. Oldsmobile had power, performance, and looks in mind when creating the 442 monster. Other features include:
