I am relisting my 1960 Oldsmobile 98 Celebrity Sedanagain, because I reall need to sell it!
I don't have anywhere to store it ;(
I am the second owner and have had it for about 20 years. I bought it with 35,000 original miles. Runs like a champ!
Rocket 394 engine, All original except for electric fuel pump.
I put a little over $2500 into within these last 18 months: New break lines, rebuilt generator, replaced gasket and transmission filter, replaced rear transmission seal, replaced head gaskets, rebuilt power booster and a few other things.
Exterior/Body:
98% of the chrome interior/exterior is intact (some minor pitting starting on exterior trim) Has chrome wind guards & rain deflectors.
Great body! Needs some minor work. Paint is ok, I like it as is, but it probably needs to be painted. Has a dent on back bumper. Front wind shield is cracked.
Power windows (driver side needs a new motor). Power seat in front (perfectly functioning). Power booster rebuilt!
Interior:
The pictures say it all. The dash board is in excellent condition! 3/4 of the door panels are good. (need minor work.) The seats need to be redone. I've been driving it with seat cover. It needs a new headliner and time for a new carpet kit. All electrical works. The original radio needs to be connected, but works. All interior chrome is intact!
Despite the above mentioned issues, the car is a head turner. It's a one of a kind gem. It runs great! The engine purrs. Most of the problems it has are cosmetic. I looked all over the internet and couldn't find one similar. It's the celebrity Sedan...only 17,000 made in 1960.
BTW: The car was in two movies as an extra show car. "That thing You Do" with Tom Hanks and "Norma Jean & Marilyn", both in 1996.
Read more info below:
The Ninety Eight (or 98...Oldsmobile liked to spell out the model name for most purposes) was the top of the line in 1960. It was slightly longer than the other two lines (wheel base is 126.3" vs. 123") and it's over-all length was 220.9" vs. 217.6". The added length gave the passengers in the rear seat of a Ninety Eight about 4" more leg room than the other models. It also came with more standard equipment than the other two lines--power steering, power brakes, power windows, and the Hydra-Matic transmission were all standard. Air conditioning, push-button radio, and De Luxe heater were all still optional.
