Car description

California car for the last 25 years or more (I'm the 3rd owner, purchased in 1998). Solid body, straight frame, original interior in very good shape. Original 400 CID engine and automatic transmission. 98,780 miles on the dial today (Nov 1, 2018). The engine was overhauled at 87,000 miles, including modifications for premium unleaded gasoline. This summer I had front disc-brakes professionally installed and the carburetor rebuilt. Driven for recreation the last 10 years.

This 442 was built with the "Turnpike Cruiser" option. It called for a 2 bbl carburetor providing 325 HP, and taller gearing, providing better mileage and top-end acceleration for highway driving. As a true 442, there's plenty of torque and acceleration at the low end, too. It has the original dual-exhaust system, but the mufflers are a little louder than the originals.

The eight-track player works, and my tapes are included. Wheels are custom 15", replacing the stock 14" wheels.

Status: Wants a painting, hence the price. Older midnight blue paint over original light blue shows some cracking near side windows. Originally had a vinyl top. Small patch of bubbles under paint above left rear window, and a couple quarter-sized bumps on left rear panel. The driver's door has slight sag. Minor body damage at rear wheel wells (see photos), small dent on left side behind the door. Trunk is dry and clean. Air conditioner isn't working. Clock doesn't tick. Could use a new side mirror on passenger side, and a new antenna. After 50 years, it is still a beautiful car, in good condition, and great fun to drive. With new paint it will draw a crowd!

Small print: The description is my honest best effort, and may not be a complete description of any or all faults or features. The car is sold "as is", with no implied or assumed warranty.
