Car description

DSI Auto Sales, LLC is pleased to present this 1957 Rocket 88 Convertible. No expense was spared on this frame off restoration. The quality of this car fits in nicely with the rest of the collection that surrounds it. The meticulous owner carefully cares for this (as he does all of his cars) in a climate-controlled garage with a marble floor and chandeliers! Even the most discerning buyers will see how nice and well done this car has been restored... and maintained. From time to time our seller will sell some of his collection to make room for others. That is what he is doing now. Once he sells a couple then he will replace them. This is somebody else’s chance to buy this ultra-rare and extra nice vehicle for their collection. Everything about this car is very nice. From the beautiful blue paint, the gorgeous convertible top, the incredibly clean engine bay, this car is nice. This is an investment quality car that will turn heads anywhere. For 1957 Oldsmobile offered the J-2 option which was three two-barrel carburetors for the 371 cubic inch V-8 which was standard for both models. This engine was also called the Rocket 88. In a large way the J-2 option made the 1957 Oldsmobile a muscle car as well as a luxury car. The J-2 option was also referred to as the Tri-Power package. For 1957 only, the basic 88 was officially named Golden Rocket 88, taken from Oldsmobile's 1956 Motorama two-passenger show car. However, the only badging was an "88" underneath each taillight. Also for 1957 the "J2" option was offered, with three 2-barrel (0.32 m3) carburetors, similar to the Pontiac Tri-Power. The Super 88 continued as the upscale mid-line series. Under the hood, the Rocket V8 increased in displacement to 371 cubic inches and 277 horsepower (207 kW) for all models across the board. Oldsmobile celebrated 1957 as the company's 60th anniversary. Oldsmobile Division of General Motors, which was a founding firm of GM in 1908, renamed the entry-level series "Golden Rocket 88." The 1957 Golden Rocket Oldsmobile has been equipped with the coveted J2 triple carburetor option. Available on all series, the J2 package was originally intended for NASCAR competition, but NASCAR Chief Bill France banned it, claiming it was not a production option. In addition to the J2 package, the car has power steering and power brakes, windshield washers, an electric clock, a heater and a Wonderbar signal seeking AM radio with power antenna, power seats and a power top. Attractive in light blue, it has a dark blue vinyl convertible top with matching boot cover and blue and white vinyl upholstery, all in excellent condition. The car is also fitted with seat belts. The body contours, paint and chrome are all exceptional and an examination of the black undercarriage confirms its professional, body-off restoration. Inspections are welcomed and encouraged. Trades are also welcomed and considered (up or down) but will need to be approved of prior to the close of the deal. This car is also being marketed on other venues and we reserve the right to end the listing at any time.
