This 1953 Oldsmobile 4 door sedan was built in Southgate, California in February of 1953. One of 3,641 vehicles produced with the Hydra-Matic transmission before the great plant fire that year. The rest of the 1953 Oldsmobiles were manufactured that year with Buick Dynaflow transmissions. This was the first year of 12 volt electrical. This vehicle has never seen salt and the underbody is extremely clean for its age. Originally this car was robin egg blue in color but the paint had begun to peel under the desert sun. It was primed and painted black by the previous owner, but the paint has never been finished. New chrome door handles are in the trunk. It also has a rechromed hood ornament. It needs to be clear coated and polished to be a quality paint job. I have owned this vehicle for 4 years but I have run out of time to finish it. I finished the front and rear seat upholstery and all electrical is working now as it should. New factory style carpet with heat/sound barrier installed underneath. The original mohair glove box was repaired and reinstalled. The original Olds Rocket 303 V8 engine has been completely torn down and rebuilt. It has all modern style gaskets including steel reinforced rubber valve cover gaskets. The fuel/vacuum pump has been rebuilt and powder coated. The intake, timing cover and valve covers were all stripped and cleaned and done in a high temp silver paint. The original 2bbl carb has been rebuilt. The engine has new lifters, pushrods, and the cams were redone. All internals cleaned and checked for specs. New timing chain and gears. The smog tube was removed and converted to a modern PCV type system. New Pertronix Flame Thrower ignition coil and solid state ignition. No more points and condenser. The headlights are now diamond clear lenses. All dash bulbs are now LED. The entire exhaust has been redone as it was from the factory, including new thermal exhaust risers to warm up the carb. Things this car needs: Side window glass ($260 on ebay); door sill plates; door panels (I have templates if needed); the transmission linkage needs to be adjusted to drive it otherwise it can only go 25mph before it kicks down... all gears work including reverse; all stainless steel trim is included just needs new clips to reinstall; new headliner needs to be finished and windlace is needed. All in all this is a very solid car with ultimate show potential. Many extra parts and a new high torque starter are included. I have added before and after pictures of the engine. Good luck and happy bidding. No warranty expressed or implied. As-is/where-is. High bidder responsible for vehicle pickup or shipping. |
