1949 Oldsmobile 98 Sedanette
A little history gives you a perspective on how important this 1949 Oldsmobile sedanette is to the history of design. After World War II ended in 1946, he auto manufacturers got back into business and basically used the 1940/1941 design for 1947 and 1948. General Motors did a big revision on most of its divisions for 1949. Oldsmobile was considered the "leader of the pack" for avant-garde design and speed and the 1949 Oldsmobile 98 sedanette certainly shows a futuristic look for General Motors. To top it off Oldsmobile introduced the overhead V8 engine that became the hotrodder's favorite engine for about a decade to follow. The Hydra-Matic automatic transmission had 4-speeds and generally speaking could lay a strip of rubber 50 feet long (if you wanted to) on fast acceleration. Here at MissChiTown we just love the Sedanette's design. When you look at it from the back view you can see that it has a boat tail look to it. Some believe that the Corvette coupe stingray and Riviera boat tails got the styling cue idea from the sedanette. Be that as it may just about everybody agrees that the sedanette is a fabulous automotive sculpture driven by a powerful V8 engine and a very responsive 4-speed Hydra-Matic transmission. The phenomenal design of the top of the line 1949 Oldsmobile 98 took many styling cues from the GM Motorama Oldsmobile concept cars. The Series 98 Futurmatic sedanette are very rare and hard to find! In addition to the great styling, 949 was the first year for the 303 C.I. Over-Head-Valve (OHV) ROCKET V8. The private seller tells us that this beautiful rolling sculpture with its phenomenal design maintains most of its originality. The 48,900 original miles are not documented but believed correct by the seller. The seller tells us that the car starts, uns and stops just as it should and that it is in just wonderful condition as you can see from the photos. The owner has stated that he believes the car to be in the original factory color (repainted), nterior and dash, ngine and Hydro-Matic automatic 4-speed transmission. Original hubcaps. Owner believes that even the very attractive spot light is original. The original working radio and clock and original 6-volt system. The front and rear bumpers have been re-plated. The private seller tells us that he took the original radiator apart and re-cored it. New water pump. Rebuilt master cylinder. Four new brake pistons in brakes. The seller tells us that the car idles at 30 lbs of pressure and runs at about 45 lbs of pressure. If you are looking for a unique car that will get a lot of attention at any serious car show, he 1949 Oldsmobile 98 sedanette certainly fills that bill. Top that off with the fact that these are extremely rare cars that are hardly ever seen at car shows. The sedanette in this auction may be one of the few of this model that has been offered in recent times in this condition. Certainly you should consider this a very rare opportunity to purchase a car like this. We realize that cars like this can be very popular to collectors outside of the United States, specially Australia, new Zealand and Sweden.
