The '62 Starfire came with a new combustion chamber shape and a slightly higher 10.5:1 compression ratio. The outside styling treatment centered on an expanded brushed-aluminum side trim package. Much like previous model years, he standard equipment list was impressive. The new coupe was priced at $4,131, round $50 less than the Ninety-Eight Sports Coupe. Remaining the most expensive car in the Oldsmobile lineup, he Starfire convertible was priced at $4,744.This car carried an MSRP of almost $6000! Only the 1962 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz Convertible was a more expensive car in the GM line-up.GM only produced this body style Starfire Convertible for 2 years...1961 & 1962 the 1962 is considered by collectors all over the world as the one to have in your collection.GM claimed to have lost money on every single 1962 Starfire Convertible they produced and when you see & drive this car...it is totally believable. The Paint on this Starfire is magnificent. In the sunlight the Metalflake (Firemist) color is really incredible. The fit on the doors, ood and trunk is superb. The chrome is really fabulous with only two minor tiny imperfections...it's not visible in any of the photos. The Aluminum side trim is original and considering it is 53 years old in remarkable condition....no reproduction aluminum trim on this car-it's the real thing made in 1962.The chrome braces and frame on the inside of the convertible top is in show condition. All the gauges and lights on the dash work and the padded dash is in pristine condition.I drove this car almost 200 miles today. The weather in South Florida was phenomenal. Sunny in the low 70's with hardly a trace of humidity and wonderful breezes 10-15mph.I started off in Boca Raton and drove all the way to Jupiter, lorida with the top down, he boot on and listening to music from the 50's, 0's and 1970's.I stopped along the way at the Cars From Dreams Museum in North Palm Beach, hen on to Miller's Mustang Barn In Jupiter, L. and had a wonderful lunch with my friends Jack & Claire Miller. It just doesn't get any better than this....unfortunately my girlfriend was working today which would have made the trip all the better! After lunch, drove to Stuart along A1A and then came back to Boca Raton at 75mph on the Florida Turnpike. (2800 rpms) No vibrations and tracks perfectly straight as an arrow & absolutely fantastic car to drive effortlessly at 75mph.I set the safety sentinel warning at 76 mph which works perfect. If I exceeded 75 mph, he warning buzzer would sound. The high-definition photos let you see how gorgeous this car is but as good as this Starfire looks....you can't really appreciatehow nice this car really is until you drive it.This car shifts so smoothly and effortlessly that the best way to know for sure it had shifted into the next gear was to watch the tachometer for the drop in engine RPMS.To start the car cold, ust press the gas pedal 1/2 way one time, elease and turn the key...no need to pump the pedal...It starts the 1st time...every time. For the 1st 3-4 minutes, he COLD light comes on and is easily seen in the crystal clear originaldash panel...after a few minutes, he COLD light will disappear. The GEN & OIL light will come on for an instant and disappear as soon as the engine fires up.Once you drive this car, ou know this is a 30,000 mile car. It is tight-tight-tight and once you start driving it-you really don't want to stop driving. The steering is one finger effortless driving and the power brakes stop the car straight as an arrow...no pulling to either side as often is experienced with vintage cars. The power trunk release works as do all the windows and the Power Drivers seat. The AM radio is disconnected and the power antenna is connected to the modern great sounding Pioneer system. The Tri axial Stereo speakers in baffles are under each bucket seat facing rear. No kick or door panels were cut nor did we alter the perfect original dash. The Pioneer is neatly installed inside the glove box. This is not a 1962 Starfire Convertible for anyone other than the discerning collector who not only wants a great looking car...but demands a car that runs so good and is so dependable, hat he or she would not be afraid to drive it anywhere...at any time! (inclement weather excepted...just too nice to drive in bad weather) perfect for a sunny day or gorgeous moon lit night)The title reads "Mileage Exempt) which is the case on most 53 year old cars, ut I am convinced this is a 30,000mile car for several reasons: 1.The Brake and accelerator pedal are original with very little wear.2. The car drives very "tight" with fantastic steering and overall handling.3. No squeaks or rattles.4. No oil, rake, ater, uel, ear end or transmission leaks. 5. Starts up the 1st time, very time, o "pumping" of the gas pedal required.6. Idles extremely smooth and quiet. 7. Loads of torque & available horsepower 6. Car "sits" just right andno pulling to either side when brakes are applied7. No sign of body filler (Bondo) or that this car has been in an accident. 8. Factory fit on doors, runk and hood.9. Has the sound when engine is running and car is driving of a low original mileage car.10. The ultimate test is driving this car. Since I had a brand new Starfire in 62 and I own one that I purchasedin 1988 with just over 14,000 miles, really do know how a low mileage Starfire should drive. Your testdrive and inspection is most welcomed and encouraged..but it MUST be while this 10 day auction is running.. not AFTER the auction has ended and you have won the car because you were the high bidder or met the reserve price on this auction. If you need to obtain financing, you must get a commitment before bidding on this car...NOT AFTERyou have wonthe auction. Make 100% certain you have the financial means to meet the auction payment requirements whichare "20% bank wire or Bank Cashier's payment within 48 hours from the end of the auction and Bank Cashier's Check or Bank wire transfer within 7 days thereafter." Sorry, o exceptions unless we have discussed this and we have sent you a written e-mail authorization for any exceptions or extension of payment. If you choose to pay for the car in full via bank wire, e will release the car for immediate shipment to you aslong as we have the copies back of the signed paperwork which is required by the DMV.We are happy to send you a copy of the title to prove possession of the free & clear title prior to your sendingpayment on this car.Never did I think that the Guide-A-Matic Autronic-Eye would still work...but when it got dark, took the car out of the garage, urn on the headlights, nd when I started up our street, s soon as the Autronic Eye faced down our street, he bright lights came on...and stayed on...until a car began to approach and the lights instantly changed from BRIGHT to REGULAR. I find this absolutely AMAZING. This is the 1st 53 year old car that I have every driven that had a perfectly working Autronic-Eye.In 1988 I purchased from Tom Monahan, he Founder of Dominos Pizza, is 1962 Oldsmobile Starfire Convertible with 14,100actual miles. I paid beyond top dollar at the time ($45,000) It is the same color combination but has one more option which I have never used...Air-Conditioning. Not that it's relevant because this car is NOT and never will be for sale by me. 27 years late, with wonderful memories, ur Starfire now has 17,300 miles and the only money I have had to spend on the car was for oil & filter changes, times, nce every 1000 miles. We changed the plus/points/condenser one time although it wasn't really necessary. The only reason I am mentioning my other 1962 Starfire is because I know how these cars should drive....and although it has over 30,000 miles, he car we are offering on Ebay drives just as good as my 17,000 mile car.It is my personal opinion that if it is too hot to drive a 50's or 60's Convertible with the top down...so you have to ride around with the top up and the AC on...then it's probably a day more suited to a modern car...or if it's raining or snowing...the vintage cars should always remain inside. If your lucky to live in a part of the U.S. that still has drive-in movie theaters (Ft. Lauderdale has 12 screens at the Thunderbird Swap Shops)...owned by my long-time friend, reston Henn. This is a perfect car to take the family, ncluding the kids to the drive-in movies or just out for a nice cruise. If you don't have any drive-in movie theaters...hopefully you have some drive-in restaurants!I am long past taking any of our cars to car shows to win a trophy...but if your into that...this is a sure trophy winner! If a better looking and driving 1962 Starfire Convertible at this price exists....I'd love to see it.So what was happening in the world in 1962 when the Oldsmobile Starfire Convertible was introduced to the car buying public? On January 17, 962 television quiz show contestant Charles Van Doren and others were convicted in New York of game show fixing.John F. Kennedy learns of Soviet missile deployments in Cuba on October 16, 962, nd demands their removal. The United States and Russia were on the brink of thermonuclear war before Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev agreed to remove the missiles on October 28, 962, nding the Cuban Missile Crisis.Thank the Lord it was Russia who "blinked" and turned their ships around avoiding surely what would of possibly been the end of the world as we know it.Shipping: If you need help shipping this car in the U.S. or anywhere else in this world, will be happy to put you in direct contact with Mary Olson who has been our sole shipping person for not only us, ut for several of my friends who own car museums. She is honest, eliable, ependable and gives great personal service. She has arranged shipping for myself and several of my friends of more than 3000 cars over the past 10 years.Twenty First Century Auctions has been selling fine Late model sports cars, intage and collectible cars on EBAYMOTORS since March of 2000 and we have a 100% feedback rating.Even in this very tough economic times where real estate has tumbled down a very steep hill....vintage cars...the real ones...the pedigreed cars in great restored or near perfect original condition continue to hold value and in most instances appreciate. Why not have fun with your money? ...enjoy your life and know that when you wake up in the morning your dollars are still safe in your garage or warehouse and haven't evaporated into thin airI was privileged to be close friends with the late Jerry J. Moore from Houston, exas. Jerry was a Real Estate Mogul and one of the largest owners of shopping centers in the world.Jerry was also an avid car collector and amassed one of the largest and best vintage car collections on the Planet. If Jerry told me once....he probably told me over 100 times......"In case you forgot...remember..."You will never see a Brinks truck at a funeral service or a Hearse with a luggage rack at a cemetery!"Car collecting is a family thing...everyone around the world admires and loves these great vintage and collectible cars.We have sold cars from Australia to Alaska...From China to Saudi Arabia.....From Manhattan to Moscow....and the hobby keeps growing & expanding all the time.Collector car insurance is dirt cheap...about $250-$300 a year for a quality collectible like this. and you can also buy full coverage! They usually require a garage and not more than 2500 miles a year put on the car.I recommend you only buy a car like this if you have a garage to keep it in.I always try and look for major flaws and mention them and try to point them out when I see something. If you call me I will go over the car with you in great detail...both inside and out. AGAIN....Please do not ask us to recommend anyone....we want you to select & hire your own inspector.if you wish to schedule an appointment to see this car, lease call me at954-873-6495....We would appreciate at least a 1-2 day notice. After you speak with us on the phone, t is possible to have a scanned copy sent directly to you.We know this is a Platinum investment collectable car..this is a car that you can still drive & enjoy and will increase in value...not decrease in value.....and if you chose to...you could drive it every day. We feel very strongly that a car like this will not only hold its value but in years to come will continue to appreciate. Please don't buy a Museum quality car like this unless you have a garage to store it inside. We do not think this car has ever been left outside. You can look at this car in bright outdoor sunlight or indoors under halogen or florescent light...it still looks spectacular....but don't take our word...PLEASE...come and check it out yourself. I personally don't like surprises and it's our goal not to give you any....this is a NO DISAPPOINTMENT collectible 1962 Starfire Convertible. The Data plate indicates this car was originally white.
