1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass/442 W-30 Replication This is an original Code 75 Matador Red Car This Oldsmobile up for auction is the perfect classic muscle car to hang out with at the local car shows. I can't see anyone not loving this car at first sight! This is the type of car that even after you park it, ou can't help yourself from turning around to take another look at it as you're walking away. These 1970's muscle cars have incredible investment potential and have been referred to as rolling bank accounts. This might just be the car for you to enjoy while your money grows for you. According to the previous owner, his Olds does have the original numbers matching Rocket engine, nd I double checked to make sure. He was telling the truth! For all of you numbers matching critics out there. The last seven digits M152937 of the vehicle identification number are on the block. This is absolutely the numbers matching block that was nicely detailed to resemble a W-30. The Rochester Quadrajet 4-barrel carburetor also has the correct numbers for this engine, o I believe that is numbers matching as well. I never learned how to check transmission codes, ut my best guess is this turbo-hydromatic is numbers matching too. The suspension really makes this Olds sit up just right. Under the hood there is a new air cleaner, new PCV valve, new fuel pump, new fuel filter, new voltage regulator, new blower relay, new hood hinges, ewer radiator with a new radiator cap, nd mostly all new vacuum hoses. The exhaust manifold gaskets were both replaced, o the engine sounds smooth with newer dual exhaust and new chrome exhaust tips. There is an Interstate Mega-Tron battery with new terminal ends. An original Matador Red Code 75 442 is a very rare and highly sought after model.This particular 1972 Oldsmobile was made to look like a 442 W-30 with the awesome white W-25 stripes painted on the body with emblems to match. If this were a real W-30 it would have an X in the vehicle identification number. The fender wells were only red on the very first ten 1972 W-30's that rolled off the assembly line in December of 1971, o I left the original black fender wells on this car. I'll give a little background on the 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme, utlass S,and 442 models. Prior to the 1972 model year the vehicle identification numbers in all 442's started out with 344. That was the way to determine whether that specific car was ordered from the dealershipas a true442. This is easily verified by the OldsFaqs website that anyone can look up online. The 442 could be ordered as a separate model for the last time in 1971. Oldsmobile decided to make the 442 an ordered option starting in 1972. The OldsFaqs website has made the statement in the past that there is no such thing as a fake 442 in 1972. All 1972 442 models started life as a Cutlass or a Cutlass Supreme, ince the 442 went to being an ordered option. Whether the car was factory ordered as a 442, r dealer installed, r a private owner installed all the 442 options, hey are all considered Cutlass S or Cutlass Supreme bodies. This is why all 1972 442's have either Cutlass or Cutlass Supreme on the glove box door depending upon whether the car is a hardtop or a convertible.This model comes with original 1972 factory 442 grilles. This Olds is steered with the awesome 442 sport wheel. This car starts right up with a new distributor cap, new rotor, new coil, new set of AC Delco spark plugs, nd new 8MM spark plug wires for maximum spark. It is very hard to find an original Code 75 Matador Red 442 with White stripes, nd a White bucket seat interior in this condition. Everyone who knows these cars, nows that this color, nd interior combination is the most popular and most desirable. There is nothing like driving down the road looking out the windshield at those two bold ram-air hood scoops with a glance out the rear view mirror at the whale tail spoiler. These doors still open and closelike back in 1972 with dual sport mirrors painted to match the body. The fenders, oors, uarter panels, nd trunk lidare all in very good condition. This car had the original Matador Red paint on it when I bought it. The paint was faded, o it needed to be freshened up.The body was meticulously prepped and primed. Then it was all block sanded by hand, nd the White paint was applied where the stripes belong. After the fine line tape striping was applied it was painted with three coats of the correct Code 75 Matador Red basecoat. The fine line tape stripes were then pulled off and three coats of clear coat were applied to bury the stripes into the clear coat. The body was then wet sanded at three different levels of 1000, 500, nd 2500 grit, nd then buffed to bring out the mirror shine as evident by the pictures. I've been told by everyone who sees this car, hat the paint work on this Olds looks spectacular. There will be endless compliments coming to whoever is the lucky winner of this rare classic.I tried to replace all of the factory decals in the engine compartment, nd under the trunk lid to make this Oldsmobile appear the way it would have rolled out of the factory onto the showroom floor back in 1972 as a brand new W-30. Even the original control arm covers are still in place on the front fender wells. I can not confirm the mileage as original, ut most states consider the mileage exempt nowadays on any car older than 10 years. This car was previously titled in Virginia, nd last registered there in 1998 as shown by the inspection decal that was on the windshield, o it has not been on the road for almost 20 years. In my opinion this car has some of the nicest floors and frame that I've seen on one of these cars mainly due to the fact it came from a southern state. The front and the rear floor pans are the originals and I saw no patchwork or rust even on the seams where these floors would typically rust. I believe the carpeting is original and still looks in fairly good shape, ut there is one small worn out spot in the passenger back seat area.Althoughwith the brand new set of fourblack deluxe carpetedfloor mats the inside appears very nice. There are enough seat belts to safely take out a family of five or a driver and four friends. I have to say when you're in the drivers seat looking out the factory tintedwindshield at those two stripes a smiles just appears on my face. This Olds rides ona set of fourP215/60R14 inch B.F. Goodrich Radial T/A raised white lettered steel belted radial tires with like new tread mounted on Super Stock II wheels painted to match the body color. All four wheels have new chrome lug nuts, ll four bolt-on center caps, ndall fourbeauty trim rings. There is a 10-bolt rear-end, ut I am unsure of the gear ratio. The original trunk floor is in super nice condition and was coated with A/C Delco Black and Aqua spatter spray for the trunkto appear factory correct and stay in nice condition for many years to come. The inside ofthe trunk has a new trunk mat that carries a full size Super StockII spare with the original restored jack and crow bar. This way if there is ever a mishap on the road with a quick tire change you can be back on the road in minutes looking complete. The chrome is in drivers quality condition or better. This Matador Red beauty was ordered from the factory with the air conditioning option. The compressor is gone, ut the majority of people didn't order A/C on these muscle cars back in the day. It is always nice to have that option in case the new owner would like to find the parts to make the air conditioning functional again. As fate would have it the heater core went out last week, nd I have had no time to replace it. A new heater core will be enclosed in the trunk with this sale for the lucky winner to have replaced. The original AM radio is not hooked up. There is a nice pair of speakers mounted in the rear package tray, o the new owner may want to go with a factory AM/FM stereo. That was why I didn't bother to try and hook up the original AM radio. The frontbucket seats were recently reupholstered and the whole interior looks in relatively nice condition as shown in the pictures. ThisOlds was factory ordered with power steering and power front disc brakes. The power brake booster and the master cylinder are brand new. The wipers work on both speeds with new wiper blades.All thehead lights, right lights, ll four tail lights, rake lights, ll four cornering lights,andeven the license plate light all work as they should. The speedometer and odometer work properly, ut I think the ground is off on the gas gauge. Thehorn, ighter, nd clock do not work, ut the clock is set on the best time of the day. It's always 4:42 time!! The original owner's manual is included inside the glove box. Anexorbitant amountof time, oney, nd effort went into making this classic into nice condition. These older classics that have survived for over 40 years are becoming harder and harder to find in this condition. The Nada Classic Car Price Guide currently has the 1972 OldsmobileCutlass/442 with theair conditioning option listed at$49,220in high condition, hich theyconsider an excellent overall vehicle that was completely restored, r an original vehicle showing very minimal wear. The exterior paint, rim, nd mechanics are presentable and serviceable inside and out.They say an average condition car is considered a20-Footer! As shown in the pictures this Oldsmobile is in far better condition than what they classify as an average condition car, nd it really does look sweet up close. They have the lowest condition value at$20,815being considered a deteriorated restoration or a very poor restoration, ut mostly usable "As-Is!" The lowest value does not represent a parts car, ut would be considered as the price for a car needing a complete restoration. Why not enjoy an incredible looking Matador Red one for a fraction of those prices. No one will know that this is not a genuine W-30 except the new owner and me. I'm not telling anyone!! This is a true red beauty that I can't see anyone being disappointed with. I believe everywhere this car is driven, ou will be the spectacle of the neighborhood. I'm not saying that this is a Barrett-Jackson restored car by any stretch of the imagination, ut whatever this classic sells for in this "No Reserve" auction is a win/win investment. Barrett-Jackson happens to be live in Las Vegas this weekend, o there will be some comparable 442's going for crazy money. This Oldsmobile is an investment that I believe will continue to rise as these cars haveshown toconsistently escalate in value. These GM A-Body muscle cars are the finest handling cars I have ever driven. This car is for the guy or girl that always wanted one back in high school, r maybe wants to show off at their high school reunion to prove how cool they still are.
