Car description |

This listing is for a rare 1982 Datsun/Nissan Maxima diesel station wagon.
I have owned this car for about 10 years and it still has relatively low mileage at under 113K. It features the 2.8 liter inline 6 cylinder diesel with 4 speed automatic transmission. The transmission has the feature where it down gears the motor as you slow down (about 22mph) sort of like a truck jake brake (without the noise) so you save on brake wear.
The strengths of this car are its low mileage on motor and transmission. It just had an oil change on 3/31 and has a full tank of fuel. It also features the rare (female) voice activated warning to help you remember to turn lights off, close doors etc. Also it is pretty fun to drive and cruises the freeway nicely at 70 mph or so. Mainly, it has been my golfing and running around town rig. It was purchased new by original owner up the road in Albany, Oregon in 1982 and I am the second owner. This car fires right up with little diesel smoke and runs strong.
The weaknesses are that it has normal wear for a 37 year old car and it's parked outside and this winter some rain got in on drivers side floor. (I think from aging window molding?) I didn't wipe down motor and as you see there is some oil blow on top of motor and some oil on lower half of block. Still, I change oil regularly and it doesn't quite get to the add quart level between changes. Tires are needing replacement, especially front drivers side. (The rear hatch door wants to close on it's own sometimes, hence the white pole you see in pic.) The brakes will need work fairly soon as well, and my mechanic says the brake line 'hoses' will have to be custom bent to fit, (unless you can find some original replacements). The red wires you see are for a new custom ignition replacement that my mechanic installed several years ago. Also, the front right plastic amber light marker needs replacing as you see. Minor body dings to right rear bumper and left rear quarter panel. There is a biodiesel sticker, but I have always run 'regular' diesel (or at most 20% bio mixed).
If you Google 1982 Datsun Nissan diesel, literally the first up is 'Curbside Classic', where there are some pics of this car (Bitchin' Betty he called it!) from before my time.
(When you come for your test drive, I will have John Mayall & Bluesbreakers Behind the Iron Curtain ready in cassette player and a couple others of the era that come with the car.)
I am near Eugene airport and could pick you up if you wish to drive it home. This car will be listed locally and I reserve the right to end auction early, bids or no bids as Ebay allows.
