Car description |
---|
1940 Nash 4 door sedan in need of restoration. Body is very solid with only surface rust and small areas of rot pictured. All four fenderssurprisingly solid and straight. Only the drivers front fender has a crease. Running boards are pretty good as are the doors. Bottoms of front doors are just starting to rot on inner edge, acks are fine. Front door lower hinges are broken allowing doors to sag when open. There's a pair in the trunk which may be adaptable for this car. Door posts and floors are in great shape. Car has one incorrect 15 inch wheel.
Car is not running at this time although it spins fine and does have spark. The motor was stuck when I purchased the car some time back and I freed up the cylinders (carefully) after removing the head.Three intake valves were burnt beyond use so I replaced them and lapped them in. I removed the pan, ave it a good cleaning, nd removed bearing caps and found all bearings to be in acceptable condition. I retorqued the caps, ssembled the pan, nstalled a new head gasket, etorqued head, illed with fresh oil.
The ignition system in this car is very unusual as it is a "twin six ignition", eaning that there are TWO spark plugs for each cylinder. This also means that the distributor cap has 12 terminals, ses 12 plug wires and TWO coils. I replaced the points and condensers, eplaced the plugs, nd got good spark but could not get the car to start.(carburetor functions OK). There may be incorrect firing order or some other problem which I missed.
I try to rescue old cars, ind them homes, nbsp;and I have had pretty good success doing so. Iseldom make a profit doing this, t's just something I enjoy. I have gone as far as I can with the Nash so it's time to, opefully, ass it on to a new owner with a little more skill.
I do not have a title for this car. It is offered with only a bill of sale.
