I'm so sad to see this guy go but I just don't have the time to put into him. Burt, our beloved Mitsubishi Delica L300 4x4 monster is up for sale. We've had him since March of 2016 and put a lot of upgrades on in that time.
First off if you're familiar with Delicas you will know they're not winning any speed competitions but where they lack on the pavement they shine on the dirt. True 4x4 with locking front hubs and Hi/Lo transfer case, I have tried to get this thing stuck in mud, snow, ice whatever and I can't! Truly a tank in the snow. Upgraded tires to AT 6 ply Pathfinder 30X9.5R15 tires and Procomp aluminum 15in wheels (stock is 14in) with a better offset to stabilize the van, it is very planted now and you can go a little faster on top speed. I have the stock rims which I can add for a bit more cash.
Interior is in good condition, no rips or tears in the seats. The AC could use a recharge since you have dual zones and the cool box to chill drinks while you get to your campsite. The middle seats are the captain chairs and rotate 360 degrees, also fold flat and would mate up to the rear bench but ours didn't come with one and we just use it for added storage. You can store a ton back there, mountain bikes, kayaks, you name it and it can haul your gear. I added an inline diesel fuel heater which keeps your fuel from gelling up in extreme colds. I have started this rig pretty easily in 10 degrees.
Exterior has some wear, rust isn't bad at all and there are zero rusted through areas but I would get an undercoat spray to prevent any more. We got this van from Calgary CA and the person we got it tipped it on its side (hence the rebuilt title) and it broke the top Crystal lite window, that has been fixed but I went back and sealed it much better than that guy did. No leaks anywhere.
Engine is in this state: this summer I noticed a little bit of a rattle sound coming from the engine and it stalled on me which never happens so I took it home and parked it immediately. I thought it might be the turbo so I did a complete top end rebuild including new turbo CHRA, head gasket, water pump (new) timing belt and balance belt. I was in there so might as well get it all done at once. I fired it up and still have the sound along with a lack of power. I had the oil tested and it came back with traces of zinc and copper, most likely due to a spun rod bearing. I'm still not completely sure that's the case but that's the reason I'm selling him for so cheap. Might need a valve adjustment or a bottom end rebuild. I searched for the 4d56t engine and they can usually be bought with sub 50K miles from Japan for around the 1500-2000usd range.
I'm leaving this up to someone who can hopefully restore him to his former greatness, the van starts, idles, moves and drives but I wouldn't want to take it out more than it has to to prevent further harm.
Buyers will be responsible for shipping if needed.
