.1971 Mini Cooper convertible built by the Bank Garage in Britain for Rover as a study prototype.I contacted the owner of Bank Garage who related that he was contracted by Rover to custom build a number of prototypes in both right and left hand drive to be studied by the factory to determine the feasibility of Rover building convertibles. Bank Garage took the cars apart, ut them down as convertibles, e-inforced the frames, nstalled larger engines, idened the wheel wells and re-upholstered and re-painted themI purchased the car from a horse trainer in Northern Virginia in 2010. I had the car gone over by a well known British car restoration shop. I was re-assured that the conversion was professionally done with substantial frame bracing etc.In the past four years I have had the suspension rebuilt using new parts, ad the radiator re-cored, ad the muffler system rebuilt and installed a new Weber down-draft carburator. ( the old SU carburator and air cleaner comes with the car). The body and paint are very nice. I drive my cars but also take them to local shows. The car won a "cutest car in show" trophy in Waynesboro, a. and first in class in Florida. I have shown the car at Cars and Coffee at the Amelia Island Concours where it attracted a big crowd. The car drives very well and steady as a rock at 125 kph.I am 74 and cutting back my small collection of British cars. This car was supposed to go to my son but it seems he does not want to learn to drive manual transmission. I will really miss it when it is gone.
