About as nice an MGB as one could imagine...........the product of a lovingly complete restoration by a West Coast MG specialist (for his own use), VERY expensively done engine: completely rebuilt short block, balanced, lightened flywheel, gas flowed aluminum cylinder head, appropriate performance camshaft, electronic ignition, new supercharger assembly....all in all, with set up and tuning, probably ever bit of a $10,000 engine. Maybe more,
Coupled to a rebuilt four speed with overdrive transmission (which works on 3rd and 4th gears giving six forward ratios). Particularly nice as the overdrive switch is on the right stalk and one can in and out as if using a modern high tech paddle shifter.
Excellent body and paint, no rust on floors, sills, rockers, in the trunk or anywhere else. Went over the exterior with a small magnet, stuck everywhere, hence no sign of plastic filler. And considering this is a 44 year old English sports car, must be one of very few in this condition. Lets face it, 90% of MGB are often held together by bondo, fiberglass, and stuffed with steel wool or newspaper.
And nicely painted under the trunk carpets, inside door sills, engine bay, etc. Stainless steel door thresholds, new rubber around the windshield....overall, a beautiful job. With great detail work.
Front end was rebuilt, front AND rear tube shock conversion, oil cooler, new radiator, new wiring harness (the best single item to ensure long term reliability, extra fuse box (with modern snack in fuses) inside cockpit to ensure far better (than stock) electrics. Even had extra relays added for head and driving lights.
Best of all, a complete professional chrome bumper conversion.....see, later MGBs were the best of the breed failing only in two tiny areas...gutless and ugly. But they did have a number of advantages....more elaborate safety equipment, far better rust proofing, power assist unit for the disc brakes, stronger gearboxes and overdrive units and far stronger back axles (remember, all of these components were used in 150hp MGCs and 137hp English market MGBGTV8s.....so no worry about the extra power and torque of this supercharged engine, the rest of the drive train was designed to handle it).
All of the chrome is new, new convertible top and boot cover, full tonneau cover, all new interior, wood dash, modern JVC stereo/CD with USB input, performance exhaust system, carpeted trunk, hydraulic hood and trunk struts, and new Minilite style alloy wheels with new 205/60HR15 radials (the wider tires offer much better handling, the 'H' rating is for high speed, and the larger rolling radius of the 15" wheels/tires offers even higher gearing and less revs at higher speeds). And if one wants, easily converted to wire wheels.
And the result of all of these modifications? A civilized classic high performance sports car with excellent ride, steering, handling, gobs of low speed torque, breathtaking performance, yet a genuine classic style.
Parts are plentiful and generally quite inexpensive, a good proportion of this car is new, ready to enter into a show, not fussy and easy to drive on a daily basis, and just about ideal for the proverbial weekend drive in the country. And even a luggage rack to bring one's golf clubs along.
This supercharged MGB starts instantly, runs flawlessly, can maintain any practical high way speed up to well over 110 mph, and BEST OF ALL, being a small, excellent driving car, is fun at speeds MUCH closer to legal speed limits. Which makes sense...why insulate and isolate yourself from the road.....who cares if 100 mph feels like 60 (in a Porsche, BMW, Jaguar, etc.)....a smarter way to have fun is the other way around, drive an old sports car that at 60, feel like 100.
I have done my best to photograph every nook and cranny, under the floors, engine bay, trunk, interior, top up, top down, dashboard, details. Having gone over the body with a magnet and found zero bondo, I really don't think this car is hiding any dreadful secrets. Oil pressure is right on, there is zero smoke cold or hot, overdrive clicks in and out instantly, no exterior bubbles or cracks, just a genuinely interesting high performance classic MG.
And I would be more than happy to answer any questions about this little gem.
