Car description

A really fantastic MGB, purchased in 1981 as possibly the last brand new MGB available in the NY Metropolitan areas, garaged every day of its life, now with 25,900 original miles. A near perfect, rust free example WITH a long list of intelligent upgrades.
Engine has 150 psi compression in every cylinder (like new), 70-75psi oil pressure when warm (like new), zero smoke cold or hot (like new), quiet valves, no oil leaks, starts instantly, runs perfectly. Has just been fitted with a set of high flow headers and a new Weber 32/36 DGV carb with electric choke. Which greatly adds to performance, reliability, and ease of operation........just like a modern car, turn the key, start the engine and go........
Engine bay is spotless, has electronic ignition, thermostatically controlled electric radiator fans, power disc brakes, greatly improved electricals compared to early MGBs.
And, as a late model MGB, has front and rear sway bars, bigger gauges, bigger and more efficient radiator, extensive factory rust proofing, and in most ways....a better car.
Has been lowered to the pre 1975 ride height (which makes the car look better and helps handling) and, at the same time, got new MGBGTV8 front bushings and new springs. Kingpin and bushings feel like new. And all new splined hubs and new chrome knock offs and a good set of 14" wire wheels with 175/70 radials.
All of the brakes have recently been replaced, shoes, pads, wheel cylinders, etc. Power brakes work perfectly.
Excellent interior is all original and close to perfect, has a new wood dashboard, new wood steering wheel, modern stereo/CD with USB input, inertia reel belts, original top is also near perfect and just had new plastic windows installed....fits with the perfection of an original top (which it is). Even has its original tonneau, jack and jack bag, and (of course) a spare wire wheel and tire.
Another distinctive item on this car are the bumpers, removed, professionally prepared with a special chemical mix to make the paint as flexible as are the rubber bumpers and then sprayed to match the exterior. HUGE difference as now the bumpers harmonize with the body. In my eye, made a great improvement.
These later cars are often criticized due to gutless performance (with the original Stromberg carb, only rated at 62.5hp), mediocre handling (due to higher ride height), and the mismatch of the dull black rubber bumpers with the shiny exterior paint.
But this car has been improved in all and even more areas. What is best about these later cars is their lack of fussiness, in every way improved. Safer, easier to drive, more powerful heater (and a/c is easily installed...and very effective...and we can do the work), one can have a true classic in a near 40 year old MG yet not have to work on it every weekend....in fact, with the new Weber and electronic ignition, car will never need a traditional tune up.
It is a fantastic example, almost like new but greatly improved. And should provide many years of fun, trouble free use. In some ways, these later MGBs seem like 35% modern Toyota/Nissan/Honda and 65% old British car.
The car is available for immediate sale, shouldn't have any issue for a long drive home. I can help with delivery anywhere in the world, store the car (at no charge) until arrangements are made, even deliver within a, say, 300 or so mile radius. While there are some other low mileage cars on the market, most (if any) don't have the intelligent improvements this car has received. And the overall combination is 'excellent, original' and 'new and improved' makes for a one of a kind car.
I have tried to do my best to convey the condition, history, and specification of this car. Hence, photos taken under the floor, in the engine bay, trunk, top up and down, on and on. And if you have any questions about purchase, ownership, improvements, additions, please call weekdays during business hours at 203-377-6746. And if you are local, it would be my pleasure to provide a half hour tutorial on use and ownership.
A rare opportunity to own a sensational MGB and at a perfect time of the year.
