Car description

DETAILS Genuine 1951 MG TD Mark II with engine number TD/C 11431, car number XPAG/TD2/LHX11375 and frame serial number TD/C 11375. I believe that the car originated in California and was owned by a US Navy sailor in San Diego and then San Francisco. Paperwork includes the California pink slips from 1972 and 1973 as well as the last California plate.

Car apparently came to Wisconsin in the early to mid 70s and remained in a barn forabout 20 years. It wasn'ttitled in Wisconsin until 1993. The 1993 Wisconsin title which I still have shows the car as previously being titled in California. As such, I don't think the car was ever driven again once it left California.

Previous owner bought it as a father and 16 year old son project. The intent was to have it ready for high school graduation. The car was completely disassembled, chassis sandblasted and painted, engine rebuilt and radiator rebuilt. Progress ground to a halt, 25 years passed and I bought the car last summer. As it was completely disassembled, I loosely reassembled it to check completeness and started the engine.

GENUINE MARK II All numbers match on the car the way they are supposed to (see photos). All four Mark II shocks complete with lever arms and links are there. It has the dual fuel pumps, larger intake manifold, head with larger valves, hood side panel with special bulgeand dual 1 1/2 inch carbs (mounting flanges filed out as original to accept the stock TD aluminum snorkel). Pure and simply, this a correct Mark II

ENGINE The engine was rebuilt about 25 years ago. New bearings .020/.020 and new .080 pistons were fitted at that time. I filled the carb bowls, jumped the starter motor and thenstarted the engine after assuring proper oil pressure. Ilet it run several times for about 10 seconds each time. Although the engine does run, I recommend that it be torn dow, cleaned and checked before any further use. In addition, the carburetors and head need to be rebuilt.

BODY Although there is a significant amount of surface rust, there is no rust-through or rot anywhere. Most of the wood is solid and reusable. Photos show the details including the solid quarter panels and solid rear fender wells. The battery box is solid with the typical rust through/corrosion behind the battery terminals. Note that when the previous owner disassembled the car, all hardware was bagged and labeled. As such, for about 95% of the requirements, I used the original hardware to loosely assemble the car. Notable exception is the door hinge hardware.

CHASSIS Chassis was completely disassembled by the previous owner. It was professionally blasted and painted (receipts available) before being reassembled to a rolling configuration 25 years ago. I do not know the extent to which the rear end and shocks were refurbished.

MISSING ITEMS Significant items that I could not find are: air cleaner and snorkel, two rear side curtains andclock.

GENERAL This package is the basis of a great project. It is a genuine, numbers matching Mark II with all of the hard to find unique Mark II items, has spent the majority of its road time in California and has a running, rebuilt engine. It has a clean, open title. Car can be inspected at anytime in Burlington, Wisconsin. Car is available for pickup only in Burlington. Although I can not ship it, I can assist your transporter in loading it. Delivery in the midwest as well as Ohio, Pennsylvania and New York might be possible.
