Car description

1967 MGB GT Mk1 with Very Rare BMC Air Con and Overdrive:VIN # GHD3L117288
Offered once again is a lovely early MGB GT, Mk 1, with proper Mk 1 overdrive gear box in excellent working order. Rare original aluminum hood, and dealer installed BMC air con.. Odometer indicates under 50K miles, although this cannot be authenticated.
Drivetrain is a 4 cyl, 1798cc mated to a manual overdrive gearbox. This is NOT an automatic transmission. The last 'buyer' misunderstood this to be an automatic transmission.
Features dealer installed BMC air con, which is in working order when charged. A charge holds for about two months and uses R12 refrigerant. All components appear to be original to the build date.
The 1798cc engine does not have the original block, but all original components were installed on a newer block in the 80s. The engine is hugely reliable, starts immediately and holds good oil pressure. There are no overheating issues. This example has a stainless steel exhaust system and the fuel tank is relatively new. With a bit of choke, this car fires up quickly and settles into a idle easily.
This example remains postive ground - all components are original to a (+) ground system. Single 12v battery is less than 6 mos old.
The brake pads/shoes and wheel cylinders were replaced less than 3k miles ago. A new water pump was installed within the last year. The emergency brake cable is rather new, but has seized from lack of use. Tires are new within a few years, with little wear. Two of the wire wheels were blasted and powder coated; it is suggested that the other three receive the same treatment. Original jack and tools in proper tool bag.
The body will require some attention to make this a fine example. Although the floors are rather solid, there is some corrosion. The worst corrosion in the body lies behind the driver's side front wheel. It appears that the LR fender was replaced sometime ago. Please refer to the photographs for other details.
The interior is in good order. Although reupholstered some time back, the door cards, door rails and interior panels are original. The headliner and carpeting, replaced some time ago, are in good condition. All gauges are working with the exception of the tachometer. The unit was recently rebuilt by Nisongers, but is not working-perhaps it was not installed improperly. The original AM radio and speaker function as they should.
This example drives quite well. There is no wandering, nor pulling. The suspension is good; sway bar bushings may need replacement. Steering is tight, although rack and pinion boots do need replacement.
This example was used regularly for short commutes and was extremely dependable. Some documentation dating back to the mid 1980s.
Sale will include much ephemera, some of which is featured in photos - including original BMC AM radio manual, original BMC AirCon manual, BMC AirCon dash tag...
Seller is releasing this vehicle with regret due to compromised health. All inquires will receive prompt replies.
