Car description

MG TD, 1953

58,000 genuine, verified miles since new

Selling for a long time friend, the title states this car had 56,000 'actual' miles when it last changed hands, has been driven at low speeds around Martha's Vineyard for the past 16 years, now indicates 58,000 miles.

ORIGINAL leather seats are incredibly good, still soft and supple, original dash covering, interior trim, and dashboard covering all excellent. Carpets have been replaced as have the top, tonneau, and curtains (all in tan cloth). Chrome and trim, possibly original (?) but all in very good condition.

Engine: was rebuilt at 56,000 miles, did a compression test and saw 150-160 psi in every cylinder, when warn and at 3,000 rpm runs 50 psi oil pressure, no smoke cold or hot, quiet valves, runs like new. Transmission is quiet, does not pop out of gear, and has good synchromesh action.

Brakes were redone, does not pull, stops properly. Exhaust is quiet, every thing works electrically, all original gauges work, even has a working heater.

Engine bay is very clean and nicely detailed, has original (and often missing) air cleaner assembly, was painted properly with firewall matching exterior and all fenders painted underneath in matching red.

The car has seat belts, working turn signals, quiet exhaust, steering and suspension are excellent, I checked underneath and found no wood rot, doors close properly, grille shell chrome is excellent, and while I don't know if the steering wheel is original or a replacement, there is no cracking and it is in excellent condition.

What else is there? In my opinion, it is the best all around MG TD I have ever seen......a rare combination of rebuilt/restored (paint and engine), properly serviced (brakes, new tires, etc.), and original....leather, interior, etc.

I wouldn't have any qualms about driving this car anywhere but, perhaps, would be happier with a radio installed. In every way, the next owner will get a genuine gem that will dazzle others are car shows, offer fun use on winding roads, and should last (at least) for another 64 years.

My friend wants to sell this (he is retired and is moving towards another collector's car) so, truth is, first call that works out a reasonable offer...and the car is sold.

I can be reached at my office at 203-377-6746 9-5 weekdays Eastern time and would be glad to do my best to answer any questions. I can also help the winning bidder with shipping. Thanks for looking and good luck!
